How to orderSpecifications
Custom Clear Vinyl Decals use an ultra-clear PVC vinyl substrate with a matching clear adhesive backing. Both layers are transparent, so unprinted areas disappear on glass, packaging, and smooth surfaces. These decals work best anywhere a white background would block or clash with the surface underneath.

Transparent Vinyl Substrate With Clear Adhesive Backing
Ultra-clear PVC vinyl uses a clear adhesive backing, so both the material and the bond point are fully transparent. The surface underneath stays visible through every unprinted area of your design. Your graphic appears to float directly on the glass or packaging rather than sitting on a white rectangle. No white border. No visible substrate edge. Just your artwork on the surface.
CMYK Full-Color Print on Ultra-Clear Vinyl
A2Z Printing Hub runs full-color CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, the standard 4-color printing process) on every clear vinyl order. There is no white ink layer underneath the color, which keeps the transparent effect intact. Logos, phone numbers, and brand graphics print in bold, crisp color against the clear background. Printed areas are fully opaque. Unprinted areas stay see-through.
Die-Cut to Any Shape Up to 58.5 in Wide
Die-cut finishing trims each decal to the exact outline of your design rather than a standard rectangle. Kiss-cut backing (a cut through the vinyl layer only, leaving the liner sheet intact) keeps the sheet whole for clean, tear-free peeling. You get a sharp-edged graphic in any shape, up to 58.5 in wide. Orders wider than 58.5 in ship in multiple pieces with alignment instructions included.
Customer reviews
We applied these clear decals to the inside of our windows, facing out, and they look fantastic. They're protected from the elements and look very clean.
Despite being clear, these vinyl decals are durable and have held up well to cleaning and outdoor conditions on our storefront.
These decals were easy to apply and are virtually invisible once on the glass. They really make our logo stand out without a background.
We used these clear decals for subtle branding on our office windows, and they look very professional without being too overpowering.
The clear vinyl decals give a really seamless look on our glass doors. It almost looks like the design is etched directly onto the glass.
Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Car hood, truck door, or bumper panel placements need vehicle-type sizing templates and placement guides built for those surfaces. Vehicle Decals cover those applications.
Full window coverage and perforated one-way see-through graphics need a different material entirely. Window Decals carry perforated vinyl and static cling options designed for those uses.
Floor-rated non-slip decals for foot traffic on tile or polished concrete need a 3 mil vinyl base with 7 mil non-slip lamination. Floor Decals are rated for that application.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Clear Vinyl Decals configuration.
-
Applying to Glass or a Transparent Surface
Clear vinyl is the right call for glass doors, storefront windows, and clear packaging. The transparent background lets the surface show through, so your graphic reads as part of the glass rather than a label stuck on top. Upload your design on a transparent background (PNG or AI file with no background layer) and select die-cut for the cleanest edge. The cut line follows your design outline exactly, with no white rectangle visible around it.
-
Applying to a Dark or Tinted Surface
Here's the thing: clear vinyl doesn't add a white base layer. Unprinted areas in your artwork stay fully see-through, which means the dark surface color shows through those gaps. Light-colored or thin design elements may not read clearly against very dark or heavily tinted glass. Use bold, dark, or high-contrast colors in your artwork. But if your design relies on light colors against a white background, standard white PVC vinyl (available in our Die Cut Vinyl Decals) gives you better visibility on dark surfaces.
-
Choosing Between Clear Vinyl and Standard White Vinyl for a Non-Glass Surface
Clear vinyl works on any smooth surface, not just glass. On opaque surfaces like painted metal or plastic, the transparent background picks up the surface color underneath. That effect can look intentional on painted metal, but it isn't always what buyers expect. If you want a clean, solid background behind your graphic on a non-glass surface, standard white PVC vinyl is the better choice.
-
Deciding Between Clear Vinyl Decals and Window Clings
Clear vinyl decals use permanent clear adhesive and bond firmly to glass for roughly 3 to 5 years outdoors. Window Clings use a mini-dot backing (tiny adhesive dots that prevent air bubbles) with no permanent bond, so they reposition and remove without residue. Choose clear vinyl for long-term storefront branding. Choose Window Clings for seasonal promotions or temporary displays you plan to swap out monthly.
Pair it with
Finish the Storefront Glass Setup
Clear vinyl handles your logo on the door, but the glass around it can do more work. Window Decals add perforated or static cling options for hours, URLs, and seasonal promotions on the same glass surface without permanent adhesive.
Switch the Background When Clear Isn't the Right Call
On painted metal, dark packaging, or any opaque surface where a white background gives better contrast, a different material wins. Die Cut Vinyl Decals use standard white PVC so your graphic reads clearly against any surface color. Window Clings work when the application needs to be temporary and repositionable.
When the Surface Changes the Product You Need
Clear vinyl doesn't carry vehicle-type sizing templates. It's also not rated for door panels sized to standard commercial dimensions. These two products are built for those specific surfaces.
Scale the Brand Beyond the Decal
A clear vinyl decal on the window is the close-up detail. Custom Banners cover the facade at a scale visible from across the street, roughly 10 to 40 ft out, and they pack flat for reuse.
FAQs
Will the Clear Background Actually Disappear on Glass, or Will It Look Hazy?
The ultra-clear PVC vinyl substrate is transparent, not frosted. On clean, smooth glass, the unprinted areas disappear completely and your printed graphic appears to float on the surface. Haze typically comes from dust or oils on the glass before application. Wipe the glass with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth before applying, and the background will be invisible.
Do Custom Clear Vinyl Decals Hold Up Outdoors on a Storefront Window Through Rain and Sun?
Yes. UV printing bonds ink directly to the vinyl surface, giving you a waterproof, scratch-resistant finish. Outdoors on glass in direct sun, clear vinyl decals typically hold up 3 to 5 years before you see any edge lifting or color shift. Indoor applications last longer. This is the weather resistance benefit these decals are built around.
Can I See the Proof Before My Order Goes to Print?
Every order includes a free digital proof within 24 hours of file upload. The proof shows the exact die-cut shape, color output, and which areas of your design will be transparent on the finished decal. Nothing goes to production until you approve it.
How Do I Apply a Clear Vinyl Decal to Glass Without Bubbles or Misalignment?
Start at one edge and use a squeegee (or a flat card) to press outward toward the opposite edge. Work in overlapping strokes, about 2 in at a time, pushing air ahead of the decal face. For larger decals over 12 in wide, wet application works well. Mix a few drops of dish soap in water and you get roughly 60 seconds to reposition before the adhesive bonds fully.
Can I Remove a Clear Vinyl Decal From Glass Later Without Damaging the Surface?
The permanent clear adhesive bonds firmly but is not damage-proof on all glass coatings. On standard float glass or tempered storefront glass, apply low heat from a hair dryer for about 30 seconds per section, then peel slowly from one corner. Any adhesive residue left on the glass lifts cleanly with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth.
Get your artwork right
Clear vinyl printing starts with your file. Accepted formats are PDF, PNG, JPG, and AI. For logo shapes and die-cut outlines, AI or PDF (vector) files give the sharpest cut line because vector art scales without softening edges.
- Resolution
- Minimum resolution is 150 DPI. For any decal under 4 ft where someone reads it up close, 300 DPI is the right call. Soft edges show at that distance. Set bleed to 0.25 in on all sides. Keep text and logos at least 0.5 in from the cut edge so nothing trims short.
- Color mode
- Color mode must be CMYK, not RGB. CMYK matches how we print, so the colors you see on screen are the colors you get on vinyl. For clear vinyl specifically, submit your artwork on a transparent background so unprinted areas stay see-through on the finished decal. Bold, high-contrast colors read best on glass.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wait 24 hours after applying your clear vinyl decal before cleaning the surface around it. This gives the adhesive time to bond fully to the glass or smooth surface.
- Clean the decal face with mild soap and water on a soft cloth. Fingerprints show more visibly on clear vinyl than on white vinyl, so wipe down the face regularly. Use glass cleaner on the surrounding surface, but keep it off the decal itself to avoid lifting the edges.
- Do not use abrasive scrubbers, solvent-based cleaners, or wax directly on the decal. These scratch the UV-printed layer or soften the adhesive bond at the edges.
- To remove, apply low heat from a heat gun or hair dryer, then peel slowly from one corner. Any remaining adhesive on glass cleans off with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth.
