4 Mil PVC Calendar Film With Permanent Adhesive
PVC calendar film runs 4 mil thick on every hood decal we print. It's a thin, flexible vinyl rated for outdoor use that stays flat against painted metal through road debris, rain, and direct sun for 3 to 5 years. Permanent adhesive bonds tight to the hood surface without lifting at the edges. Sharp edges. No bubbling after the first cure. A2Z Printing Hub uses this same 4 mil stock across every vehicle decal in our catalog because thinner materials lift at corners within a season.
UV Printing at 720 DPI Minimum for Crisp, Fade-Resistant Color
UV printing locks in color at 720 DPI minimum across the full hood surface. Ink cures instantly under ultraviolet light, giving you a scratch-resistant, waterproof face that holds bold logos and lettering through weekly car washes and months of direct sun. And because the ink bonds to the vinyl rather than sitting on top, color stays crisp instead of chalking out after one summer. Full-color CMYK output at every order. No fading.
Die-Cut to Any Shape Up to 58.5 In Wide
Die-cut finishing cuts the vinyl to the exact outline of your design rather than a standard rectangle. Your hood graphic reads as a custom shape, not a sticker on a panel. Orders up to 58.5 in wide ship as a single piece with no seam. Worth knowing: anything wider ships in multiple flat panels with alignment guides included. Kiss-cut on the backing sheet keeps edges sharp right up to installation, so the vinyl peels cleanly without tearing the design edge.

Ideal for
Not the Best Fit For
Full vehicle wraps covering the entire car surface from bumper to bumper fall outside what we print. We cover specific placement areas. For full coverage, a local wrap installer is the right call.
Temporary vehicle signage that needs daily removal is not a good match for permanent adhesive. Magnetic Signs handle that job cleanly, with no residue and no commitment.
One-way see-through graphics on rear windows need perforated vinyl, not solid PVC. Window Decals with perforated vinyl are the right product for that use case.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Hood Decals configuration.
-
Sizing Your Decal to Fit Your Hood Panel
Measure your hood before uploading anything. Run a tape from the front edge to the base of the windshield, then side to side across the widest point. Most car hoods run roughly 40 to 55 in wide. Truck and Jeep hoods often run wider, right up to 58.5 in, which is the maximum single-piece width we print.
Enter your exact measurement in the size configurator so the decal fits your panel without overhang or a gap at the edges.
-
Matching Your Cut Shape to Your Design
Here's the thing: not every design reads the same way at hood scale. A logo with a clean, tight outline works best as a die-cut shape, where we cut the vinyl to the exact edge of your artwork. A full-panel graphic covering the entire hood reads better as a rectangle cut to your hood dimensions.
Upload your artwork on a transparent background for die-cut orders. For rectangle cuts, just enter your hood measurements and we size it to fit.
-
Die-Cut vs Rectangle: The Quick Rule
Die-cut for shaped logos and lettering. Rectangle for full-coverage hood art that runs edge to edge.
-
Fleet Order vs Single-Vehicle Order
Fleet orders of 10 or more vehicles qualify for volume pricing. Order all units in one batch so every hood graphic matches in color and cut across the fleet. Single-vehicle orders follow the same 1 to 2 business day production timeline and ship flat with a backing sheet and application squeegee included.

Hood Decal vs Magnetic Sign: Which One Fits Your Situation
A hood decal uses permanent adhesive and holds 3 to 5 years. Right choice if your vehicle stays branded full-time. But if you use the same vehicle for personal driving on weekends and business runs on weekdays, a Magnetic Sign lets you swap branding on and off without adhesive.
Go with the decal for any dedicated business or fleet vehicle. Go with Magnetic Signs for shared-use vehicles where the branding needs to come off and go back on the same day.
Pair it with
The Removable Alternative
Your hood decal bonds permanently, which is exactly right for a dedicated business vehicle. But if the same vehicle pulls double duty on weekends, Magnetic Signs let you swap branding on and off without adhesive. No residue, no commitment.
Finish the Full Vehicle
A logo on the hood gets noticed from above in parking lots. Add a phone number at door level and a website where traffic behind you can read it, and you cover every angle.
Vehicle-Type Fits
Same 4 mil PVC and 720 DPI UV print, sized to wider truck and Jeep hood panels. Placement templates are built for each body style.
Window Graphics
A rear window graphic pairs with your hood decal so drivers approaching from behind see bold branding. Covers the angle drivers facing you already see from the front.
FAQs
Will a Hood Decal Pull Paint Off My Car When I Remove It?
Not on factory paint finishes. Use a heat gun on low heat, peel slowly from one corner, and the 4 mil PVC calendar film releases cleanly. Any adhesive residue left behind wipes off with rubbing alcohol or Goo Gone. Worth knowing: if your hood has fresh paint under 30 days old or aftermarket respray work, wait until that paint fully cures before applying any decal.
Can I Apply a Large Hood Decal Solo Without Bubbles or Misalignment?
Most buyers do it solo on panels up to about 50 in wide. Your order ships with an application squeegee and printed instructions. Start from the center of the hood and work outward in overlapping strokes. The kiss-cut backing sheet (which keeps the liner intact until you peel it) lets you position the decal before committing, so you can correct alignment before pressing down.
Will the Colors Fade After a Full Summer of Direct Sun?
UV-cured ink on 4 mil PVC resists fading for 3 to 5 years under normal outdoor conditions, including direct sun and weekly car washes. The ink cures instantly under ultraviolet light during printing, which locks it into the vinyl surface rather than sitting on top of it. Colors stay bold through road exposure, rain, and heat without peeling or chalking.
Do I See a Proof Before My Hood Decal Goes to Print?
Yes, every order includes a free digital proof showing your exact cut shape, size, and color output. Nothing goes to production without your approval. If the proof does not match what you submitted, tell us before you approve and we correct it at no charge.
How Long Do Custom Hood Decals Last on a Daily Driver?
Custom Hood Decals on 4 mil white PVC calendar film carry a 3 to 5 year outdoor rating under normal driving conditions. That covers daily sun exposure, car washes, rain, and road debris. Vehicles parked in covered garages or driven less frequently typically see the longer end of that range, sometimes beyond 5 years.
Get your artwork right
We accept PDF, PNG, JPG, and AI files. AI (vector) works best for logos because the lines stay crisp at any size. Raster files (PNG, JPG) need a minimum 150 DPI at final print size.
- Resolution
- For decals under 4 ft wide, go with 300 DPI. That's where viewers get close enough to spot a soft edge.
- Color mode
- Set your color mode to CMYK, not RGB. CMYK is the 4-color process (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) our presses actually use, so colors match what you see on screen. RGB files convert on our end, and the shift can surprise you.
- Bleed
- Build in 0.25 in of bleed (extra artwork extending past the cut line) on all sides. Keep logos and text at least 0.5 in from the cut edge so nothing trims too close.
- Artwork setup
- For die-cut hood decals, upload your artwork on a transparent background. We cut to the exact design edge. A white or colored background changes the cut shape.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wait 72 hours after applying your hood decal before washing the vehicle. The adhesive needs that time to cure fully against the painted metal surface. For the first 2 weeks, hand wash around the decal and avoid high-pressure spray aimed directly at the edges. After 2 weeks, normal automatic car wash use is fine.
- Clean the decal face with mild soap and water. Do not use abrasive cleaners, polish compounds, or wax directly on the matte surface, as these dull the finish over time. To remove the decal, run a heat gun on low heat and peel slowly from one corner. Any adhesive residue left on factory paint lifts cleanly with rubbing alcohol or Goo Gone.
