4 Mil White PVC Calendar Film With Matte Finish
4 mil white PVC calendar film (a thin, flexible vinyl sheet that conforms to flat and slightly curved glass) forms the base of every windshield decal we print. Matte finish is the key detail here. Glossy vinyl bounces light straight back at the driver. The matte surface absorbs it, so your windshield graphic reads clearly in direct sunlight without creating glare across the sightline. At A2Z Printing Hub, every windshield decal ships on this material by default, because glass placement does not forgive a reflective surface.
UV Printing at 720 DPI Minimum for Crisp, Lasting Color
UV printing cures ink instantly under ultraviolet light the moment it contacts the vinyl. No drying time. No smearing. The result is a scratch-resistant, waterproof surface that holds bold color for 3 to 5 years through car washes, rain, and road debris. And 720 DPI minimum means fine text and logo edges stay sharp at close range, which matters on a windshield where pedestrians and passengers read the graphic from roughly 2 to 4 ft away.
Die-Cut to Any Shape With Kiss-Cut Backing Sheet
Die-cutting trims the vinyl to your exact design outline rather than a standard rectangle. The kiss-cut backing sheet (cut through the vinyl layer only, leaving the paper intact beneath) keeps the whole decal together until you're ready to apply it. You peel from one corner without tearing the design or misaligning the edges. Sizes reach up to 58.5 in wide, so a full windshield banner strip fits in a single piece.

Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Full windshield coverage or full vehicle wraps fall outside what we cut. We produce decals for specific placement areas. For full-car coverage, a local wrap installer is the right call.
Need something you can pull off daily? Permanent adhesive is not the answer there. Magnetic Signs attach to the door panel with no adhesive and come off in seconds.
One-way see-through graphics on the rear window are a different product entirely. Perforated Window Decals use a 70/30 perforation that lets you see out while branding shows on the outside.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Car Windshield Decals configuration.
-
Windshield Placement and Local Law Compliance
Front glass placement carries legal weight. Most states restrict decals on the driver's primary sightline, which runs roughly through the center third of the windshield. The two safe zones are the lower corners (typically a 4 to 8 in area on either side) and the banner strip across the top.
Check your state's windshield obstruction statutes before you finalize placement. If front glass feels uncertain, the rear window is a cleaner legal bet. See Custom Car Rear Window Decals for that surface.
-
Size Relative to Your Windshield Area
-
Banner Strip Decals
The top banner strip on most cars runs roughly 4 to 6 in tall and up to 58 in wide. That's the tinted gradient band across the top of the glass. We cut to your exact measurements, so enter the actual width of your glass in the configurator.
-
Corner Placement Decals
For lower-corner placement, a 4 to 8 in square or a die-cut shape in that range fits without overlapping defroster lines or the wiper sweep area. Measure your corner zone first. Enter those numbers and we cut the decal to that outline.
-
Single Order Versus Fleet Quantity
Single orders suit personal vehicles and one-off branding jobs. Fleet ordering changes the math. Orders of 10 or more vehicles qualify for volume pricing and typically add 1 to 2 production days so we can confirm consistent placement specs across every car.
Contact us before placing a fleet run. Showing up with 12 vehicles and mismatched decal positions is a problem we can help you avoid upfront.
-
Windshield Versus Other Car Placements
Windshield decals face forward and read to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. That's a strong position for a logo or phone number. But it is not the only position worth considering.
Custom Car Rear Window Decals face traffic behind you, which is often the longest-held view a driver gets of your vehicle. Custom Car Door Decals cover the largest flat panel on most cars at eye level for pedestrians. Pick the placement that matches where your audience actually looks, not just where there's open glass.
Pair it with
Cover the Door, Bumper, and Rear Glass Too
A windshield decal brands the front of your vehicle. Custom Car Door Decals go on the largest flat panel at eye level for pedestrians. Custom Car Bumper Decals put your phone number or URL at traffic-facing height. Custom Car Rear Window Decals face drivers behind you, the most-seen surface on any moving vehicle. Together, these three placements finish the rest of the car.
Night-Visible Branding for After-Dark Use
Reflective Car Decals use engineer-grade reflective vinyl (material that bounces headlight beams back toward the source) for vehicles that operate after dark. A matching reflective bumper or door decal next to your windshield graphic adds safety-visible branding at night.
Removable Option for Weekday-Only Branding
Magnetic Signs attach to your door panel with no adhesive and pull off in seconds when you park for personal use. They're the right call when you need branding on weekdays but a clean car on weekends, without committing to a permanent decal.
Extend the Hood and Roof Surfaces
Custom Car Hood Decals face down into parking lots and overhead cameras, reaching an audience your windshield decal misses entirely. Both use the same 4 mil PVC material, so colors stay consistent across the full vehicle.
FAQs
Get your artwork right
We accept PDF, PNG, JPG, and AI files. AI (Adobe Illustrator vector format) is best for logo shapes because it scales to any die-cut size without losing edge sharpness.
- Resolution
- minimum 150 DPI, recommended 300 DPI for any decal under 4 ft. Below 150 DPI, fine text and logo edges print soft.
- Bleed
- 0.25 in on all sides. Bleed is the extra image area beyond your cut line that prevents white edges if the cut shifts slightly.
- Safe zone
- keep all text and logos at least 0.5 in from the cut edge so nothing important gets trimmed.
- Color mode
- CMYK, not RGB. CMYK is the 4-color printing process we use, so colors match what you see in your layout. RGB files shift in tone when converted at print time.
For die-cut windshield decals, upload your artwork on a transparent background. We cut around the exact design edges, so a solid white background becomes part of the shape.
Our free online design tool is available at checkout if you're starting from scratch. A professional design service is also available if you need a layout built from the ground up. Submit your artwork on a transparent background and our team sends you a free digital proof within 24 hours.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wait 72 hours after applying your windshield decal before running the car through a wash. The permanent adhesive needs that window to fully bond to the glass. For the first 2 weeks, hand wash around the decal area and avoid directing high-pressure spray at the edges. After 2 weeks, normal automatic car wash use is fine.
- Clean the decal face with mild soap and water. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvent-based products, or wax directly on the matte surface, since these can lift the edges or dull the finish. To remove the decal, apply low heat from a heat gun or hair dryer, then peel slowly from one corner. Any remaining adhesive residue cleans off glass with rubbing alcohol or Goo Gone.
