How to orderSpecifications
Custom Window Clings grip smooth glass through surface tension rather than permanent adhesive, making them the only window graphic that removes cleanly every time. Each cling prints on 8 mil low-tack static cling material with a mini-dot backing that prevents air bubbles on application. They're the right choice for any temporary window graphic that needs to come down without a trace.
- Material
- 8 mil low-tack window cling with mini-dot adhesive backing.Thicker than standard 4 mil vinyl, so the cling lies flat without curling at the edges.
- Print Method
- UV printing (ink cured instantly by ultraviolet light).Produces a scratch-resistant, waterproof surface that holds up through multiple removal cycles.
- Color Output
- Full-color CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black four-color process).Reproduces bold graphics, photographs, and fine text across the full printed face.
- Finishing
- Die-cut to custom shape. Kiss-cut on backing sheet (cut through the cling layer only, leaving the backing intact for easy peeling).
- Size Range
- Custom sizes up to 58.5 in wide.Orders wider than 58.5 in ship in multiple panels with alignment guides.
- Indoor/Outdoor Rating
- Outdoor rated for UV-printed color longevity. Inside-mount application gives the best durability. Exterior-face exposure may shorten usable life depending on climate.
- Single/Double-Sided
- Single-sided only. Printed face displays outward. Mini-dot backing faces the glass.
- Adhesive Type
- No permanent adhesive. Static cling holds through surface tension and mini-dot contact points. Removes without residue and repositions on any clean, smooth glass surface.

8 Mil Static Cling With Mini-Dot Backing
Static cling material runs 8 mil thick on every window cling we print. That's roughly twice the body of standard 4 mil vinyl, which gives the cling enough stiffness to lie flat against glass without curling at the corners. The mini-dot backing (tiny contact points spaced across the adhesive face) holds the cling through surface tension alone, so you remove it without adhesive residue or glass damage. No scraping. No solvent. Clean glass every time.
UV Printed Full Color, Die-Cut to Any Shape
UV printing cures ink instantly under ultraviolet light, producing a scratch-resistant, waterproof surface that holds up through repeated removal and reapplication cycles. Full-color CMYK output reproduces bold graphics, sharp text, and photographs across the entire printed face. And die-cutting trims the cling to your exact logo outline or silhouette rather than a standard rectangle, so the glass shows through around your design edges. That contrast is what makes a die-cut cling read more distinctly than a boxed graphic on the same window.
Inside-Mount Application for Weather Protection
Inside-mount application (cling applied to the interior glass surface with the printed face pointing outward) keeps your graphic away from rain, wind, and direct sun. A2Z Printing Hub mirrors your artwork before printing on inside-mount orders, so the image reads correctly from outside the glass. This approach extends the life of the graphic through multiple seasonal rotations without fading or surface wear. Worth knowing: outside-mount works for short-run displays of a few weeks, but inside-mount is the right call for anything lasting a full season.

Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Vehicle body panels, hoods, or bumpers have painted metal surfaces that static cling can't grip. Custom Vehicle Decals use permanent adhesive rated for those surfaces.
Interior painted walls and textured surfaces don't give static cling the smooth contact it needs. Custom Wall Decals use a pressure-sensitive adhesive built for those applications.
Permanent storefront identification, like a business name or logo staying for years, needs a firm bond. Custom Vinyl Window Decals hold to glass long-term without repositioning.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Window Clings configuration.
-
Temporary Versus Permanent Window Graphic
Here's the thing: clings are the only window graphic that removes cleanly every time without a heat gun or adhesive remover. If your window message changes more than twice a year, order clings. But if the graphic stays for more than 12 months, move to Custom Vinyl Window Decals, which bond firmly to glass with permanent adhesive and do not need repositioning.
-
Inside Mount Versus Outside Mount for Your Location
Inside mount keeps the printed surface away from rain and direct sun, which extends the life of the graphic through more reapplication cycles. The cling sits on the interior glass surface with the printed face pointing outward. Outside mount works for short-run displays of a few weeks. Specify your mount direction at checkout so we mirror the artwork correctly for inside-mount orders.
-
Standard Rectangle Shape Versus Die-Cut Custom Shape
Die-cut clings trimmed to your logo shape read more distinctly on glass than a rectangle. The glass shows through around the design edges, and that contrast is what catches the eye. For text-heavy layouts like hours or menu callouts, a rectangle or square keeps the layout clean and easier to read at a distance. Select your shape in the configurator before uploading your file.
-
Window Cling Versus Perforated Vinyl for Storefront Windows
Window clings give you a solid, opaque graphic with full removability. Perforated vinyl gives you a solid graphic from outside while letting you see through from inside, but it uses permanent adhesive. If you need to see out and also need removability, clings on the upper portion of the window paired with clear glass below is the practical solution.

Keep Permanent Branding Separate From Seasonal Messaging
Your business name, logo, and hours belong on the glass for years. Custom Vinyl Window Decals bond firmly with permanent adhesive, so they hold without repositioning while your clings rotate the seasonal message around them.
Cover More of the Glass With a Different Effect
Clings give you a solid, opaque graphic on one section of the window. These options handle the rest of the surface with a different visual result. - Custom Perforated Window Decals (solid graphic from outside, see-through from inside) - Custom Frosted Window Decals (diffused privacy effect that mimics etched glass) - Custom Clear Window Decals (transparent background, graphic appears painted directly on the glass)
Finish the Storefront From Curb to Door
Window clings start the message at eye level. These products carry it to the sidewalk and door frame.
Extend the Promotion Above and Beyond the Window
A cling covers the glass. These products push your message to buyers approaching from farther away.
FAQs
Will a Static Cling Stay on the Glass Without Falling Off Mid-Promotion?
Yes, on clean smooth glass. The 8 mil static cling grips through surface tension and mini-dot contact points (tiny adhesive dots that prevent air bubbles and allow repositioning). Surface prep is the deciding factor: wipe the glass with rubbing alcohol, let it dry completely, then apply. A well-prepped surface holds the cling firm for a full seasonal run.
Can I Apply a Window Cling to the Outside of the Glass, or Does It Only Work Inside?
Both mounts work, but inside mount is the stronger choice for anything lasting more than a few weeks. The interior glass surface stays dry and stable, so the cling grips consistently. Outside mount exposes the cling face directly to humidity and temperature swings, which can shorten the usable run depending on your climate.
How Many Times Can I Remove and Reapply the Same Cling Before It Stops Holding?
Most clings hold through repeated cycles with proper care. Rinse the cling face with clean water after each removal, let it dry fully, and reapply to a freshly cleaned glass surface. Grip fades if dust or oils build up on the mini-dot backing, not from the number of reapplications itself.
Do Custom Window Clings Work on Tinted or Frosted Glass, or Only Clear Glass?
Smooth tinted glass works well. The static cling needs a flat, non-porous surface to grip, and most tinted glass qualifies. Frosted or textured glass does not give the cling enough contact area to hold reliably. For frosted or etched glass surfaces, Custom Frosted Window Decals use a pressure-sensitive adhesive built for that surface.
What File Format and Resolution Do I Need to Get Sharp Edges on a Die-Cut Window Cling?
Submit PDF, PNG, JPG, or AI files at 300 DPI at final print size. For die-cut shapes, upload your artwork on a transparent background so we cut to the exact design outline. Add a 0.25 in bleed on all sides and keep critical content at least 0.5 in from the cut edge.
Get your artwork right
- Accepted formats
- PDF, PNG, JPG, AI. Vector files (AI, PDF) are best for logos because they scale to any size without losing edge sharpness.
- Resolution
- 150 DPI is the floor. We recommend 300 DPI at final print size, especially on die-cut clings under 2 ft where buyers read from close range.
- Bleed and safe zone
- Add 0.25 in of bleed on all sides so the background color runs fully to the cut edge. Keep all text and logos at least 0.5 in from the cut line.
- Color mode
- Submit files in CMYK (the 4-color process using cyan, magenta, yellow, and black). RGB files shift color during conversion and your printed cling may not match what you see on screen.
- Die-cut orders
- Upload your artwork on a transparent background. We cut to the design outline exactly as you supply it.
- Inside-mount orders
- Specify inside mount at checkout. We mirror the artwork before printing so your text reads correctly from outside the glass.

Care instructions
Product care
- Clean the glass with rubbing alcohol before every application and let it dry completely. Dust, oil, or moisture trapped between the cling and the glass is the main reason clings lose grip ahead of schedule.
- To remove, peel from one corner at a slow, steady angle. No heat gun needed. The cling leaves no residue on clean glass.
- Rinse the cling face with clean water if it picks up dust or lint during removal, then let it dry fully before reapplying. Do not fold the cling during storage. Store it flat between the original backing sheet or any smooth, clean surface.
- And do not use ammonia-based glass cleaners directly on the cling surface while it is applied. Wipe the printed face with a damp cloth only.
