Specifications

Custom Perforated Window Decals are 6.5 mil perforated vinyl graphics printed single-sided with UV-cured CMYK ink. The 70/30 perforation structure makes the graphic look solid from outside while keeping interior visibility intact. They work on storefront glass, vehicle rear windows, and office partitions facing hallways or atriums.

Material
6.5 mil perforated vinyl with black adhesive backing. The black backing blocks rear light so the outside graphic reads as solid, not washed-out.
Print Method
UV printing (ink cured instantly by ultraviolet light) for a scratch-resistant, waterproof finish.UV bonding holds up on glass exposed to weather, rain, and direct sun.
Color Output
Full-color CMYK at 720 DPI minimum.CMYK is the four-color process using cyan, magenta, yellow, and black to reproduce any color in your artwork.
Finishing
Die-cut to any custom shape or standard rectangle. Kiss-cut on backing sheet. The kiss-cut keeps edges intact so the decal peels cleanly without tearing on site.
Size Range
Custom sizes up to 58.5 in wide.Orders wider than 58.5 in ship as multiple panels with alignment guides for on-site installation.
Indoor/Outdoor Rating
Rated for both indoor and outdoor glass surfaces.Outdoor durability varies by sun exposure. Direct sun on south-facing glass is the hardest condition.
Single/Double-Sided
Single-sided printing only. The perforated structure and black backing are designed for one-way visibility. Double-sided printing is not possible on this material.
Perforation Ratio
70/30 (70% print area, 30% open holes). This blocks roughly 50% of incoming light while keeping the outside graphic looking full-color and solid.

70/30 Perforated Vinyl With Black Adhesive Backing

The 6.5 mil perforated vinyl carries a black adhesive backing that blocks light from behind. The outside viewer sees a solid graphic rather than a washed-out image. That backing is what separates perforated vinyl from standard clear window film. The 70/30 perforation ratio (70% print area, 30% tiny open holes) gives the outside viewer a solid, full-color graphic. The 30% open holes let people inside see through to the street, so you get full-window advertising without darkening your interior.

UV-Printed CMYK Color at 720 DPI Minimum

UV-cured ink (ink bonded to the surface instantly by ultraviolet light) runs at 720 DPI minimum on every order at A2Z Printing Hub. Colors stay sharp and readable from across a parking lot without fading under direct sun. And because the ink bonds directly to the 6.5 mil vinyl surface, the finish resists scratching and water. Crisp from 30 ft away. Tough enough for south-facing storefront glass year-round.

Die-Cut to Any Shape Up to 58.5 in Wide

Die-cutting trims the decal to your exact logo shape or any custom outline. The kiss-cut backing (a cut that goes through the vinyl but leaves the backing sheet intact) keeps edges clean so installation does not need scissors or a blade on site. Orders wider than 58.5 in ship as multiple panels for on-site alignment. Bold shapes read best at street distance, so solid outlines and block lettering give you the clearest result.

An added bonus is that these perforated window graphics help to block some of the harsh sun glare from coming into our office.

I was worried about not being able to see out, but the perforation is perfect. We have great visibility from inside our store while the outside sees our advertisement.

Ideal for

Retail storefront windows running seasonal sales where the full graphic reads clearly from the sidewalk while staff inside can still see foot traffic approaching.
Restaurant entrance glass displaying hours, delivery app logos, and specials in bold text visible from roughly 20 to 30 ft away without blocking the host stand view.
Vehicle rear windows on cars, trucks, and SUVs where the driver needs to see out while the outside shows a full-color brand or personal graphic.
Salon and spa windows covering the full glass panel with a logo and phone number that reads clearly from the street without making the interior feel closed off.
Office lobby glass walls and conference room windows where branding faces a hallway or atrium and interior visibility still matters.
Food truck service windows where a graphic wraps the glass and customers outside see the menu or logo while the operator keeps a clear line of sight.
Real estate office windows displaying agent headshots and listings in large format while the team inside keeps a view of the parking lot and entrance.

Not the best fit for

Vehicle body panels, hoods, bumpers, or doors sit on painted metal, not glass. The glass-specific adhesive here does not bond correctly to those surfaces. Vehicle Decals use a 4 mil white PVC with permanent adhesive rated for painted surfaces.

Interior walls, painted drywall, or textured surfaces will not hold this adhesive system. Wall Decals use a different adhesive built for those surfaces.

Temporary promotions that need removal and reuse monthly without residue are a better match for Window Clings, which use static cling with no adhesive and peel off cleanly every time.

How to choose

Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Perforated Window Decals configuration.

  1. Storefront Window vs Vehicle Rear Window Placement

Your placement sets the sizing floor. For storefront windows, order up to 58.5 in wide and use bold text at least 3 in tall. That keeps the message readable from the sidewalk at roughly 20 to 30 ft away. For vehicle rear windows, measure the glass panel itself and confirm your die-cut shape fits within the window frame before uploading your file. A shape that bleeds onto the trim won't sit flat.

  2. Full-Window Coverage vs Partial Graphic Placement

Full-window coverage works best when your artwork uses large shapes and solid color blocks. The 30% open holes reduce effective ink density. A design built on thin gradients or small detail will look softer than it does on screen. Partial placement on the lower third or a corner panel is a good starting point if you want to test street visibility before committing to full coverage.

  3. Permanent Decal vs Removable Cling for the Same Glass

Here's the thing: perforated window decals use permanent adhesive and are not designed for repeated removal. If you swap your window graphics more than once or twice a year, Window Clings are the better choice. They use no adhesive and peel off without residue every time, so seasonal rotations do not need a heat gun.

  4. Bold Large-Format Graphics vs Fine Detail Artwork

Sizing options matter most here. Stick to block lettering and solid shapes for the clearest read from the street. The 30% perforation ratio means thin fonts under roughly 1 in tall and hairline detail artwork will not hold their edges at print size. Bold colors and large text are the right call on this material every time.

Pair it with

Removable Alternative for the Same Glass Surface

Your window changes with the season, but permanent adhesive does not. Window Clings hold firmly to clean glass through surface tension alone, peel off without residue, and store flat for reuse. Swap a holiday promotion in and out without a heat gun. - Window Clings

Permanent Glass Surface Alternatives

Solid white backing blocks all light through the graphic area. Custom Vinyl Window Decals give you full opacity for maximum contrast on storefront glass. Custom Frosted Window Decals mimic sandblasted etching for a privacy finish on the same surface. - Custom Vinyl Window Decals - Custom Frosted Window Decals

Sidewalk-Level Pairing

The perforated window graphic covers the upper glass panel. It does not close the gap between the curb and your door. An A-Frame Sign at street level carries the same promotion message at eye height for foot traffic walking past. - A-Frame Signs

Complete the Outside Presence

The window graphic handles the glass. Custom Signs on the facade above it and Custom Banners across the awning finish the rest of the exterior so every surface reads consistently from across the street. - Custom Signs - Custom Banners

FAQs

Will the Holes Make My Graphic Look Faded or Dotted From the Street?

No. The 70/30 perforation ratio keeps 70% of the surface as solid printed ink, so the outside viewer sees a full-color graphic with no visible dot pattern from normal viewing distances. At roughly 10 ft or more, the holes disappear entirely and the image reads as a continuous print. This is the most common worry buyers bring to us, and it is not what happens in practice.

Can I See Through Custom Perforated Window Decals Clearly Enough to Drive Safely?

Yes. The 30% open holes give the driver roughly 50% of normal light transmission, which is comparable to factory-tinted rear glass. That said, perforated vinyl is rated for rear windows only. Do not apply it to a driver-side window or any window the driver relies on for primary road visibility.

How Long Will Custom Perforated Window Decals Hold Up on an Outdoor Storefront Window?

Weather resistance depends on sun exposure and climate. UV-cured ink on 6.5 mil perforated vinyl resists fading and peeling on outdoor glass under typical conditions. South-facing glass in direct sun is the hardest condition and will shorten the lifespan compared to shaded or north-facing windows. Indoors or in low-sun environments, the material holds up longer.

Do I Need a Professional Installer, or Can I Apply This Myself?

Most buyers apply these themselves. The kiss-cut backing sheet (the liner cut to your exact shape but left intact) keeps edges clean so you do not need scissors or a blade on site. Work from one edge across the panel, use a squeegee or credit card to push out air, and peel the backing slowly as you go. Large panels over 2 ft are easier with a second person holding the opposite edge.

What Happens if My Artwork Has Thin Text or Fine Detail Lines?

Thin fonts under roughly 1 in tall and fine-line artwork will lose definition on perforated vinyl. The 30% open holes reduce effective print density, so small details that look sharp on screen print softer on this material. Switch to block lettering and solid shapes. If your brand identity relies on fine script or intricate linework, contact us before submitting so we can flag the problem at the proof stage.

Get your artwork right

Accepted file formats are PDF, PNG, JPG, and AI. Vector files (AI or PDF) work best for logos because they scale without losing edge sharpness.

We accept PDF PNG JPG AI
Resolution
Resolution runs a minimum of 150 DPI at final print size. We recommend 300 DPI for anything under 4 ft wide, where viewers get close enough to catch a soft edge. Include 0.25 in bleed on all sides and keep critical text and logos at least 0.5 in from the cut line.
Color mode
Submit your artwork in CMYK color mode (the four-color process our press uses). RGB files shift color on output, so converting to CMYK before upload keeps your colors accurate.
Artwork setup
Worth knowing: the 30% open holes in perforated vinyl reduce effective ink density at street distance. Use bold fonts, solid color blocks, and text at least 3 in tall. Thin lines under roughly 1 in and fine-detail artwork will not read clearly. For die-cut shapes, supply your artwork on a transparent background so we cut to the design edge exactly.

Care instructions

Product care

  • Do not use ammonia-based glass cleaners directly on the decal surface. Ammonia degrades the perforated vinyl layer over time and reduces see-through clarity through the micro-holes. Clean with mild soap and water using a soft cloth, wiping gently across the surface rather than scrubbing.
  • Inspect the holes periodically for dirt or debris buildup. A gentle rinse with clean water clears most buildup without damaging the UV-printed surface. For removal, apply low heat from a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the black adhesive, then peel slowly from one corner. Remove any remaining adhesive residue with rubbing alcohol on the glass only, not on the decal itself.
