Contour-Cut to Any Shape on 4 Mil PVC Calendar Film
4 mil white PVC calendar film (a thin but sturdy vinyl rated for 3 to 5 years of outdoor use) gets contour-cut around your exact design edges. The result: your decal is your logo shape, not a rectangle with white borders framing it. No white background bleeds past a letter curve or a custom silhouette. The cut follows your artwork precisely, so a bolt shape reads as a bolt and a paw print reads as a paw print. Sharp edges. Clean shape. A2Z Printing Hub runs this cut on every die-cut order regardless of complexity.
720 DPI UV Printing With Permanent Adhesive
UV printing (a process where ink cures instantly under ultraviolet light) runs at 720 DPI minimum, giving you bold, crisp color from edge to cut line. The cured ink layer resists scratches and water from the moment it leaves the press. Permanent adhesive bonds firmly to painted metal, glass, plastic, and wood, so your decal stays put through rain, heat, and daily handling. Color accuracy and adhesive strength both covered.
Kiss-Cut Backing Sheet for Clean, Easy Peeling
Kiss-cutting (cutting through the vinyl layer only, leaving the backing sheet intact) keeps every decal flat and ready to apply. You peel a crisp, clean shape without tearing or misaligning the edges. And because the backing stays whole, decals ship and store flat without the vinyl curling or sticking to itself. Smooth peel every time.

Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Vehicle-specific placement decals sized for a car hood, truck door, or jeep bumper need placement guides and vehicle-type templates. Vehicle Decals is the better fit there.
Full window coverage or perforated see-through graphics belong on a different product. Window Decals with perforated vinyl or static cling options handle that job.
Floor-rated non-slip decals for foot traffic on tile or polished concrete need a heavier build. Floor Decals with 7 mil non-slip lamination are built for that surface.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Die Cut Vinyl Decals configuration.
-
Die-Cut Shape Versus Rectangle
The short answer: go die-cut any time a white border around your design would look wrong. Logo shapes, letter forms, and graphic silhouettes all read sharper when the vinyl edge follows the design edge. And if a rectangle works fine for your layout, rectangular output from the same 4 mil PVC calendar film costs you nothing extra since die-cutting is already included either way.
-
Surface Compatibility With Permanent Adhesive
Permanent adhesive on this decal bonds to painted metal, glass, plastic, and wood. On smooth, clean surfaces it holds 3 to 5 years outdoors. Do not apply to textured, unfinished, or freshly painted surfaces. New paint needs at least 30 days to cure fully before a decal goes on. If you need a removable option for glass, Window Decals with static cling material is the better fit.
-
White Vinyl Versus Clear Vinyl for Glass
Standard white PVC gives your design a solid opaque background. Worth knowing: if the surface behind the decal should show through (a glass door, a clear product bottle), order Custom Clear Vinyl Decals instead. The printed areas stay opaque, but the background becomes transparent so the glass or container surface reads through. For any solid surface, white vinyl is the default.
-
Quick Rule for Glass
Surface shows through? Go clear. Surface is painted, metal, or plastic? Stay with white.
-
Die-Cut Vinyl Decals Versus Vehicle-Specific Decals
These decals work well on van sides, trailer backs, and equipment panels. But if you need sizing templates and placement guides built for a specific vehicle type (a car hood, a truck door, a jeep bumper), go to Vehicle Decals. Those pages include vehicle-specific dimensions and positioning references this product does not cover.
Pair it with
Finish the Storefront and Facade Setup
A die-cut decal handles the glass door and equipment surfaces. But your storefront facade above the entrance needs something larger to anchor the whole look. A-Frame Signs bring sidewalk-level messaging to the curb, and Custom Banners cover the wall or facade directly above.
Alternative Materials for Transparent Surfaces
Your design needs the surface to show through on glass doors or clear product packaging. Custom Clear Vinyl Decals use the same contour-cut process on a transparent substrate, so the container or glass reads through the background. Custom Name Decals cut text-only lettering to the word shape with no background layer at all.
Removable Options for Vehicles and Windows
Permanent adhesive is not always the right call. Magnetic Signs give vehicle owners a branded panel that lifts off without adhesive residue. Window Decals with static cling material let you swap seasonal storefront messaging without leaving anything behind.
Permanent Signage That Works Alongside Decals
Die-cut vinyl covers the glass, packaging, and equipment. Custom Signs in metal or acrylic handle the fixed exterior sign above the door where a decal would not hold long term.
FAQs
Will the Cut Edges Hold After Months Outdoors, or Will They Start Lifting?
Cut edges on 4 mil PVC calendar film stay tight because the adhesive bonds the full face of the decal, not just the center. Edges are the first place a decal fails when the vinyl is too thin or the surface wasn't clean at application. On smooth painted metal or glass, cleaned before application, the contour-cut edges on these decals hold through rain, heat, and temperature swings for 3 to 5 years outdoors.
Can I Order Very Small Sizes, Like a 2 in Logo for Product Packaging?
Yes. Die-cutting works at small sizes as long as your artwork holds enough detail at that scale. At 2 in, fine lines thinner than roughly 0.03 in may not cut cleanly, so simplify tight details before uploading. The free digital proof shows you the exact cut line at your chosen size before production starts, so you can catch any issue and request a revision at no charge.
How Do I Apply a Die-Cut Decal Without Shifting the Shape During Placement?
Peel the decal from the kiss-cut backing sheet and position it with the transfer tape (included with multi-piece orders) still covering the face. Tape one edge to the surface as a hinge, then peel the backing while pressing down with a squeegee from the center outward. This method gives you about 30 seconds to reposition before the permanent adhesive sets fully on most smooth surfaces.
What Happens if the Proof Shows the Cut Line Is Too Close to My Design Detail?
Request a revision directly on the proof. Revisions are free until you approve, and we adjust the cut offset (the gap between the design edge and the cut line) to give your detail more clearance. Most revision requests resolve in one round, and production does not start until you sign off.
Do Die-Cut Decals Work on Curved Surfaces Like Hard Hats or Equipment Panels?
Yes, with some limits. The 4 mil PVC calendar film conforms to gentle curves, which covers most equipment panels, hard hats, and vehicle body curves. Tight compound curves (like a rounded helmet crown) can cause the edges to lift over time. For surfaces with a radius tighter than about 3 in, apply with firm pressure from center to edges and give the adhesive 72 hours to fully set.
Get your artwork right
- Accepted formats
- PDF, PNG, JPG, and AI files. Vector files (AI or PDF) are the best choice for logos because they scale without losing edge sharpness at any size.
- Resolution
- 150 DPI minimum. For any decal under 4 ft, go to 300 DPI. At smaller sizes, viewers get close enough to notice a soft edge, and 150 DPI will show it.
- Bleed and safe zone
- add 0.25 in of bleed on all sides. Keep logos and text at least 0.5 in from the cut edge so the contour cut doesn't clip any detail.
- Color mode
- set your file to CMYK before uploading. RGB is not the same as print output. CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) is the 4-color process we print in, so what you see in your file matches what comes off the press.
- Die-cut decals specifically
- your artwork needs a transparent background. PNG or AI with no background layer lets the cut line follow your design edges exactly. A white background layer tells the cutter to trim a rectangle instead of your shape.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wait 72 hours after applying your decal before washing the surface. The permanent adhesive needs that time to fully bond, especially on painted metal and glass. Clean with mild soap and water only. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvent-based products, or wax directly on the decal face, as these break down the UV-cured ink layer.
- For vehicle surfaces, skip high-pressure car washes for the first 2 weeks. After that, standard automatic washes are fine. To remove the decal, apply low heat from a heat gun or hair dryer and peel slowly from one corner. Any adhesive residue left on the surface cleans off with rubbing alcohol.
