Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Oval Decals configuration.

1. Oval Shape vs. a Fully Custom Die-Cut Shape

   The oval format works best when the shape itself carries meaning. Destination badges, bumper sticker campaigns, and certification labels all rely on the oval outline as part of the visual identity. But if your logo is a star, a shield, or any irregular outline, the oval border will fight the design rather than frame it.

2. Matching the Adhesive to Your Surface

   Permanent adhesive on 4 mil PVC calendar film bonds firmly to painted metal, glass, plastic, and wood. That's the right call for vehicle bumpers, storefront glass, and equipment that stays outdoors for 3 to 5 years. It is not the right choice for rental surfaces, freshly painted walls, or temporary window promotions where removal matters.

   For removable glass applications, Window Clings are the better fit. For vehicle surfaces specifically, confirm the paint is factory-finish and at least 30 days cured before applying the oval decal.

3. Surfaces That Work Well

   Painted metal, glass, powder-coated plastic, and sealed wood all give the adhesive a clean bond. Textured, porous, or unfinished surfaces reduce adhesion and shorten the rated outdoor lifespan.

4. Surfaces to Avoid

   Raw wood, brick, concrete, and surfaces with active moisture or residue do not hold permanent adhesive reliably. Clean and dry the surface before application.

5. Sizing Based on Viewing Distance and Placement

   Here's the thing: most buyers underestimate how small a decal looks once it's on a vehicle door or storefront window. A 3 in to 4 in oval reads clearly at arm's length on a product label or equipment tag. A 6 in to 10 in oval suits storefront glass or vehicle doors where viewers stand roughly 5 ft to 15 ft away.

   For a bumper visible from a car length back, 4 in wide is the standard format. Enter your target size in the configurator to see the exact print area before ordering.

Accepted file formats are PDF, PNG, JPG, and AI. Vector files (AI or PDF built from vector paths) are best for logos and text because they scale to any oval size without softening.

Resolution

Resolution starts at 150 DPI minimum. For ovals under 4 ft wide where viewers get close, 300 DPI is the better target. That's where a soft edge becomes visible on small text like a phone number or URL.

Color mode

Set your color mode to CMYK before uploading. RGB files convert on our end, but CMYK gives you the most accurate color match to what you see on screen.

Bleed and safe zone

Build in 0.25 in of bleed beyond the oval edge. Keep all text and logos at least 0.5 in inside the oval edge so nothing gets clipped in the die-cut. Sharp text. Clean edges. That's what correct bleed and safe zone settings give you.
