How to orderSpecifications
Custom Metal Wall Signs ship as flat .040 aluminum panels, UV-printed in full color and ready to mount on interior or exterior walls. They're built for permanent building identification, suite numbers, and outdoor directional signage that needs to stay readable for 5 or more years without replacement.
- Material
- .040 aluminum (roughly 1 mm thick, rust-proof, rigid).Doesn't corrode in rain, snow, humidity, or coastal salt air.
- Print Method
- Direct UV print, ink bonded to the aluminum surface by ultraviolet light.Produces a scratch-resistant, waterproof finish that won't peel or bubble.
- Color Output
- Full-color CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black combined to reproduce any color in your design).Printed on a white aluminum base for the most vivid color reproduction.
- Finishing
- Straight or rounded corners.Rounded corners reduce sharp edges in high-traffic areas. Straight corners suit industrial and grid-aligned layouts.
- Size Range
- 12x18 inches. 18x24 inches. 36x24 inches. Each size targets a different application, from suite numbers up to full facade identification.
- Indoor/Outdoor Rating
- Rated for both. Outdoor lifespan is 5 or more years in direct sun and weather. UV-printed graphics resist fading for 5 to 7 years. Indoor signs last indefinitely with normal care.
- Single/Double-Sided
- Single-sided suits flat wall mounting. Double-sided suits signs hung perpendicular to a facade so both faces stay readable from opposite directions.
- Weight
- Lighter than steel, heavier than foam board or corrugated plastic.A 36x24 inch panel is manageable for a two-person wall installation without specialized lifting equipment.

.040 Aluminum That Mounts Flat to Any Wall Surface
.040 aluminum (roughly 1 mm thick, the industry-standard thickness for commercial wall signs) sits rigid and flat against masonry, wood, or drywall without bowing. Five mounting options work: screws into wood studs, masonry anchors, standoffs (small metal spacers that hold the sign face away from the wall), adhesive strips, or a French cleat (an interlocking wall bracket for tool-free removal and rehanging). Each method keeps the panel tight to the surface for years. No warping. No sagging.
Direct UV Print in Full Color on a Rust-Proof Panel
Direct UV print bonds ink directly onto the aluminum surface using ultraviolet light. The result: bold, scratch-resistant color that holds up in direct sun for 5 to 7 years. The aluminum itself does not rust, corrode in coastal salt air, or crack in freeze-thaw cycles. Your building identification stays crisp without repainting or relabeling. A2Z Printing Hub applies this process to a white aluminum base, so colors read vivid rather than muted.
Three Sizes and Two Corner Styles for Every Wall Dimension
Three standard sizes cover the full range of wall applications. 12x18 inches suits suite numbers and door-adjacent nameplates. 18x24 inches handles mid-size directional signs. 36x24 inches covers full building facade identification. Straight corners suit grid-aligned industrial layouts. Rounded corners (a smooth radius on each corner) reduce sharp edges in high-traffic hallways and lobbies. Pick the shape that matches your wall's existing hardware and aesthetic before you upload your file.

Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Promotional messages that rotate monthly or seasonally don't belong on aluminum. Metal is a permanent material, and reordering for each message cycle is not cost-effective. Custom Banners handle short-run seasonal messaging at a lower per-cycle cost.
Buyers wanting a transparent, frosted, or floating-off-the-wall lobby look won't get it from aluminum. It's opaque and sits flush to the surface. Acrylic Signs on standoff mounts give that clear, elevated effect instead.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Metal Wall Signs configuration.
-
Mounting Method Determines Hardware Before You Order
Pick your mounting method first. Screws into wood studs or masonry anchors hold any of the three sizes flat on exterior brick, stucco, or concrete block. Standoffs work well on interior drywall and give a clean, elevated look without much installation effort.
Adhesive strips suit 12x18 inch indoor signs on smooth painted surfaces only. A French cleat (an interlocking wall bracket) lets you lift the sign off and rehang it without tools, which matters if you manage a multi-tenant space. Confirm your wall material before ordering. The wrong fastener for the surface is the most common reason a sign sags or pulls away after 6 to 8 months.
-
Outdoor Versus Indoor Placement Changes the Size You Need
-
Exterior Walls and Building Facades
Start with 36x24 inches for any sign carrying a business name, address, or hours. That size reads clearly from roughly 25 to 40 feet away, which covers most parking lot approaches and sidewalk traffic. Anything smaller loses legibility at that range.
-
Interior Hallways and Suite Identification
The 12x18 inch size fits beside most standard door frames without crowding the hardware. The 18x24 inch size works for hallway intersections where a sign needs to read from both ends of a corridor, roughly 15 to 20 feet in each direction. Measure your wall opening before selecting.
-
Single-Sided Flat Mount Versus Double-Sided Perpendicular Hang
Choose single-sided if the sign mounts flat against a wall and faces one direction. Choose double-sided if the sign hangs perpendicular to a building facade on a bracket, so pedestrians read it from both directions along the storefront. Confirm your bracket hardware before ordering double-sided. The bracket is not included and must be sourced separately.
-
Standard Aluminum Versus Reflective Aluminum for Night Visibility
Standard aluminum handles any sign read in daylight or under existing exterior lighting. Go with the reflective option if your sign needs night readability from a moving vehicle. Think parking lot entrances or a street-address marker on a building set back from the road.
Reflective sheeting bounces headlight beams back toward the driver. Night readability is a firm requirement for some locations. If that's your situation, don't skip the reflective upgrade. It is not cosmetic.
Pair it with
Finish the Door and Wall at the Same Time
Your wall sign carries the building name or suite range. A door sign handles the room-level detail right where visitors stop. Add Custom Decals to glass doors and sidelights where aluminum mounting isn't possible.
Alternative Materials for a Different Wall Look
Aluminum sits flush and opaque against any wall surface. But if your lobby calls for a frosted, floating panel, or your budget calls for something replaceable, two other materials fit that need. Rigid Signs cost less for short-term indoor displays that swap out seasonally.
Night Visibility on the Same Aluminum Substrate
Standard aluminum reads clearly in daylight and under exterior lighting. When your sign needs to be readable from a moving vehicle after dark, engineer-grade reflective sheeting (a coating that bounces headlight beams back toward the driver) makes the difference.
Complete the Building's Street-Level Presence
Your aluminum wall sign handles permanent identification above eye level. These products close the gap between the building facade and foot traffic at the sidewalk. Custom Banners cover seasonal or rotating messages on the same facade without replacing the permanent sign.
FAQs
Get your artwork right
Don't have a ready file? Our free online design tool walks you through layout, and a professional design service is available at checkout if you want us to build it for you.
- Accepted file formats
- PDF, PNG, JPG, AI. Vector files (AI or PDF) work best for logos because they scale to any size without losing edge sharpness.
- Resolution
- 150 DPI minimum. We recommend 300 DPI for any sign under 18 inches wide, because that's the viewing distance where soft edges show up on the printed surface.
- Bleed
- 0.25 inches on all sides. Bleed (extra artwork extending past the cut line) keeps color running to the edge without a white border after trimming.
- Safe zone
- Keep all text and logos at least 0.5 inches from each edge. Stay at least 1 inch from any pre-drilled hole position so hardware doesn't cover critical content.
- Color mode
- Submit files in CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black combined to reproduce any color on the white aluminum base). RGB files shift in color when converted to print, so CMYK gives you the most accurate result.
Upload your sign artwork and our team sends you a free digital proof showing the exact print layout, mounting holes, and corner style within 24 hours.
Shipping and delivery
How to Order
- Pick your size (12x18, 18x24, or 36x24 inches), corner style (straight or rounded), and sided option (single or double). Choose standard or reflective aluminum and specify your mounting method so we drill holes at the right positions.
- Upload your design file (PDF, PNG, JPG, or AI) or use our free online design tool. Tell us where you want pre-drilled holes, or select the default all-4-corners placement. We send a free digital proof showing the exact layout, hole positions, and corner style within 24 hours. If anything looks off, we adjust at no charge.
- Approve the proof and production starts within 1 business day. Signs ship flat in rigid cardboard packaging with corner protectors to keep the aluminum panel from bending in transit.
Production and Shipping Timeline
Standard production runs 1 to 2 business days after proof approval. Shipping time depends on your location and the carrier selected at checkout. Metal signs ship flat and are heavier than foam or corrugated plastic, so shipping weight affects the rate on larger panels. Volume discounts for orders of 10 or more apply automatically at checkout.
Order before 12 PM EST and your signs go into production the same day. Bulk orders of 10 or more qualify for volume pricing.

Care instructions
Product care
- Aluminum is about as low-maintenance as a wall sign gets. Wipe the face with a damp cloth and mild soap 1 to 2 times per year for outdoor installations. The panel doesn't rust, so no protective coating or wax is needed between cleanings.
- Do not aim a pressure washer directly at the printed surface, and skip abrasive scrubbing pads. Both can dull the UV-printed ink layer over time.
- Inspect your mounting hardware (screws, anchors, or standoff bolts) once a year, especially in high-wind areas where fasteners can loosen. Use stainless steel screws and anchors in coastal locations to prevent the hardware from corroding, even though the aluminum panel itself will not.
- Indoor aluminum signs need only occasional dusting or a quick wipe with a damp cloth. Standard commercial cleaners used in hallways and lobbies won't damage the surface.
