Not if you use it correctly. Trapped dirt or grit between the magnet and your paint is what causes scratches, not the 30 mil magnetic sheet itself. Remove the sign at least once a week and wipe both the vehicle surface and the magnetic backing with a damp cloth before reapplying. Never slide the sign across the paint. Lift it straight off every time.
Will the Sign Stay on at Highway Speed or Fly Off While Driving?
A 30 mil magnetic sheet with rounded corners holds securely at normal highway speeds. The rounded corners remove the edge that wind catches, so there is no lift point for air to get underneath. - Resolution matters most on smaller signs. Set your file to at least 150 DPI at final print size. For any sign under 18 in wide, 300 DPI is the better call since viewers pass close enough to spot a soft edge on a car door.
- Color mode
- Set your color mode to CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black combined to reproduce any logo color) before exporting. RGB files convert on our end, but colors can shift in ways that surprise you. Add 0.25 in bleed on all four sides. Keep logos, phone numbers, and critical text at least 0.5 in from every edge.
- Bleed
- Worth knowing: the magnetic sheet is white by default, so white areas in your design show as the sheet itself. Full-bleed color is available, but avoid hard color stops right at the edge.
