How to orderSpecifications
Custom Metal Indoor Signs run on .040 aluminum (roughly 1 mm thick), UV printed in full color on a white metal face. They suit lobbies, hallways, conference rooms, warehouses, and any interior wall where a sign needs to hold up for five or more years without replacement.
- Material
- .040 aluminum, roughly 1 mm thick rigid metal sheet.Rust-proof. Does not warp, crack, or absorb moisture indoors or outdoors.
- Print Method
- Direct UV print, ink applied and cured instantly by ultraviolet light onto the aluminum surface.Produces a scratch-resistant, waterproof color layer that will not peel or bubble.
- Color Output
- Full color across the entire face using CMYK printing on a white aluminum base.White base gives the most vibrant color reproduction of any opaque sign material.
- Finishing
- Straight or rounded corners available at order.Rounded corners (smooth curved edge at each corner) reduce sharp points and suit interior walls.
- Size Range
- Three standard sizes: 12x18 in, 18x24 in, and 36x24 in.All three sizes available in single or double sided.
- Indoor/Outdoor Rating
- Rated for long-lasting indoor use. Also holds up outdoors for 5 or more years.Indoor environments typically extend that lifespan well beyond the outdoor rating.
- Single/Double-Sided
- Single-sided prints one face. Double-sided prints both faces on the same panel.Useful for hallway signs that need to read clearly from two directions.
- Weight
- A 12x18 in panel weighs roughly 8 oz. A 36x24 in panel weighs roughly 2 lbs.Standard wall anchors handle the load without reinforcement on any of the three sizes.

.040 Aluminum That Holds Its Shape on Any Interior Wall
.040 aluminum (roughly 1 mm thick rigid metal sheet) stays flat against drywall, concrete, or wood. No bowing, no warping, no moisture absorption. That rigidity means your lobby sign looks as crisp in year five as it did on install day. No seasonal swelling, no edge curl, no replacement cycle. A2Z Printing Hub prints directly onto white aluminum, so the surface you mount is the surface that lasts. Bold color output, scratch-resistant finish, zero rust.
Direct UV Print in Full Color With Straight or Rounded Corners
Direct UV printing (ink cured instantly by ultraviolet light directly onto the aluminum face) gives you a tough, waterproof color layer. It does not peel, bubble, or fade under routine cleaning. Straight corners suit warehouses and utility spaces. Rounded corners give a softer finish on a medical office or lobby wall. Color accuracy: full treatment in Get Your Artwork Right.
Single or Double Sided on Three Ready-to-Order Sizes
Three standard sizes cover most interior sign needs. Use 12x18 in for door identification, 18x24 in for hallway wayfinding, and 36x24 in for lobby entrance walls. Single-sided prints one face. Double-sided prints both faces on the same panel, so one order handles a hallway sign readable from either direction without buying two separate pieces. Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Seasonal or rotating messages that change every few months. Reprinting aluminum for short-run updates is not cost-effective. Custom Banners handle temporary and rotating messaging at a lower cost per cycle.
Buyers who want a transparent, frosted, or floating-off-the-wall look in a polished lobby. Acrylic Signs give you that clear standoff-mounted appearance aluminum cannot match.
Temporary indoor displays for events or short-run promotions. Rigid Signs cost less and work well when durability over years is not the goal.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Metal Indoor Signs configuration.
-
Picking the Right Size for Your Wall Space
A 12x18 in panel fits door-mounted room IDs and suite numbers where viewers stand within 3 to 5 ft of the sign. An 18x24 in sign works for hallway wayfinding and department labels where staff read it from roughly 8 to 10 ft away. Go with 36x24 in for a lobby entrance wall where the sign needs to carry a business name across a room. Before ordering, measure your wall and leave at least 4 in of clear wall on each side so the sign sits balanced and readable.
-
Single-Sided vs Double-Sided Printing
Order single-sided when the sign mounts flat against a wall and faces one direction only. Double-sided printing makes sense for hallway signs, ceiling-bracket hangs, or any position where people approach from two directions. You get both faces printed on one panel, which costs more than single-sided but eliminates the need for two separate orders.
-
Aluminum vs Acrylic for Your Interior
Here's the thing: aluminum is not too industrial for a lobby. A white aluminum face with UV-printed full color reads clean and sharp on a reception wall, a corridor, or a conference room door. Choose aluminum when the space sees heavy foot traffic, cleaning chemicals, or grease (warehouses and factory floors especially). Choose Acrylic Signs when the interior calls for a clear or frosted look with a standoff mount (small metal spacers that float the sign off the wall). Aluminum costs less than acrylic and lasts just as long indoors.
-
Straight or Rounded Corners for Your Setting
Rounded corners suit lobbies, medical offices, and schools where a softer edge fits the interior style and lowers injury risk in high-traffic areas. Straight corners work in warehouses, utility spaces, and factory floors where the look is functional. Select your corner style in the configurator before uploading your design file.
Pair it with
Add a Transparent or Frosted Look Beside Your Aluminum Sign
Aluminum handles the opaque, bold wall identification. Acrylic Signs add a clear or frosted floating look in the same lobby or reception area when the interior calls for both materials. Custom Decals cover glass doors and windows in the same corridor where aluminum handles the solid walls.
Budget-Friendly Alternatives for Short-Run Needs
Rigid Signs (PVC foam board) cost less and suit temporary interior displays when you don't need the long-term durability of aluminum. For rotating seasonal messaging in the same space, Custom Banners are the practical swap.
Extend Aluminum Signage to Other Placements
Custom Metal Door Signs handle suite numbers and room IDs on door faces at smaller sizes. They complete the same hallway system your wall signs anchor. Custom Metal Business Signs cover the building facade and entrance when the interior aluminum sign needs a matching exterior counterpart.
Move the Message Outside or to the Sidewalk
A-Frame Signs sit at sidewalk level outside the same building where your interior aluminum sign carries the permanent identification inside. Custom Banners cover temporary grand opening or seasonal messaging on the facade while your aluminum sign handles the lasting interior work.
FAQs
Will an Aluminum Sign Look Too Industrial for a Polished Lobby or Office?
Not with a white aluminum face and full-color UV print. The surface reads crisp and flat against drywall or painted concrete, closer in appearance to a framed print than bare metal. Rounded corners soften the look further for lobbies and medical offices. If you need a frosted or floating-off-the-wall appearance instead, Acrylic Signs with standoff mounts are the better fit.
How Do I Mount an Aluminum Sign to Drywall Without It Pulling Away?
A 12x18 in panel weighs roughly 8 oz and a 36x24 in panel weighs roughly 2 lbs, so standard drywall anchors handle both without reinforcement. We pre-drill holes at all 4 corners by default, or you can specify exact hole positions in the configurator. Drive anchors into the studs for the 36x24 in size if the wall surface is drywall only.
Can I Reorder the Same Sign Later for a Second Location or a Replacement?
Yes. We keep your approved file on record, so reorders match the original colors and layout exactly. Volume discounts apply automatically when you order multiple units, which makes outfitting a second location or a multi-tenant building cost less per sign than the first order.
How Long Does Production Take Before My Opening Date?
Standard production runs 1 to 2 business days after you approve your digital proof. Aluminum ships flat in rigid cardboard with corner protectors, so edge damage in transit is not a concern. Order at least 4 to 5 business days before your install date to account for proof approval and shipping time.
What File Format Do I Need, and What Happens If My Artwork Isn't Print-Ready?
We accept PDF, PNG, JPG, and AI files at minimum 150 DPI (300 DPI recommended for signs under 24 in wide). Our team reviews every file before printing. But if your artwork doesn't meet specs, we contact you before production starts rather than printing a blurry result. A free online design tool is also available if you need to build your layout from scratch.
Get your artwork right
Resolution sets the difference between a crisp sign and a soft one. Submit your file at 300 DPI for any sign 36x24 in or smaller. 150 DPI is the floor, but at that resolution fine text and thin logos can look slightly soft on the printed aluminum face. Not ideal for a lobby sign people read up close.
- Accepted formats
- PDF, AI, PNG, or JPG. Vector files (AI or PDF) are best for logos because they scale without losing sharpness.
- Bleed
- 0.25 in on all sides. Keep text and logos at least 0.5 in from each edge so nothing important sits inside the trim zone or too close to a mounting hole.
- Color mode
- CMYK, not RGB. CMYK matches how we print directly onto white aluminum, so colors come out on the panel the way they look on your screen. RGB files can shift in ways that catch buyers off guard at proof stage.
Use our free online design tool to build your layout directly in the correct size and color mode. Or add our professional design service at checkout. Upload your sign artwork and our team sends you a free digital proof showing the exact print layout, mounting holes, and corner style within 24 hours.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wipe the sign face with a damp cloth and mild soap to clear dust, fingerprints, or grime. Aluminum doesn't rust or corrode, so water contact is not a concern on the panel itself. The UV-cured ink layer is already scratch-resistant and holds up to routine cleaning without any added coating.
- But do not use abrasive scrubbers, steel wool, or harsh chemical solvents on the printed surface. These can dull the color over time. Check your mounting screws or wall anchors once a year. Indoor signs rarely loosen, and a quick check keeps the panel sitting flat and level on the wall.
