How to orderSpecifications
Custom Metal Business Signs run on .040 aluminum panels (roughly 1 mm thick), UV-printed in full color on a white aluminum base. They suit any outdoor location where a foam board or vinyl sign would need replacing within a year.
- Material
- .040 aluminum, roughly 1 mm thick, rust-proof in rain, snow, and coastal salt air.It does not corrode or warp, so no protective coating is needed outdoors.
- Print Method
- Direct UV printing (ink cured by ultraviolet light directly on the aluminum surface), producing a scratch-resistant, waterproof bond.Ink adheres to the metal itself, not to a laminate or overlay layer.
- Color Output
- Full-color CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black combined to reproduce any color) on a white aluminum base.White base gives you the most vivid, accurate color reproduction available on metal.
- Finishing
- Straight or rounded corners available on all three sizes.Rounded corners reduce sharp edges on signs mounted at shoulder height or below.
- Size Range
- 12x18, 18x24, and 36x24 inches standard.The 36x24 inch panel reads clearly from roughly 25 to 40 feet for building-facade applications.
- Indoor/Outdoor Rating
- Rated for 5 or more years of outdoor exposure. UV-printed graphics resist fading for 5 to 7 years of direct sun.Indoor use extends lifespan further with no practical upper limit.
- Single/Double-Sided
- Single-sided or double-sided printing available.Double-sided suits corner-mounted or hanging signs where both faces see traffic.
- Weight
- A 36x24 inch panel at .040 gauge weighs roughly 1.5 to 2 lbs.Standard screws and wall anchors handle the mount without specialized hardware.

.040 Aluminum That Will Not Rust Outdoors
.040 aluminum (roughly 1 mm thick) is the industry-standard gauge for commercial outdoor signs. It does not corrode in rain, snow, or coastal salt air, so your sign stays structurally sound for 5 or more years without any protective coating. Foam board warps after one wet season. Corrugated plastic cracks in freeze-thaw cycles. Aluminum holds its shape and its mounting position through all of it. Rust-proof by nature. No coating needed.
A2Z Printing Hub prints directly on the aluminum surface, so the durability of the material and the durability of the print work together from day one.
Direct UV Print in Full Color on Both Sides
Direct UV printing cures ink instantly by ultraviolet light, bonding it directly to the aluminum surface. You get a scratch-resistant, waterproof finish in full color on one or both sides. Graphics resist fading for 5 to 7 years of direct sun exposure, so a south-facing building sign stays readable through its fifth summer without touch-up. Every detail reads clearly whether your sign faces foot traffic or vehicle traffic. Crisp edges, bold color, no laminate layer required.
Three Sizes With Straight or Rounded Corners
Three standard sizes cover your full range: 12x18 inches for door-level suite identification, 18x24 for entrance and lobby nameplate applications, and 36x24 for building-facade business names. That last size reads clearly from 25 to 40 feet away. Straight or rounded corners let you match the sign shape to your brand style. Rounded corners reduce sharp edges on signs at shoulder height. Straight corners suit most regulatory and directional applications.
Customer reviews
Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Temporary or seasonal signage that rotates every few months does not justify the per-unit cost of aluminum. Rigid Signs handle affordable short-run displays. Custom Banners are the right call for flexible seasonal messaging.
Transparent or frosted indoor displays need a material that aluminum cannot deliver. Acrylic Signs cover that look with a clear, standoff-mounted finish.
Removable vehicle identification needs no drilling and no adhesive. Magnetic Signs are the correct choice there.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Metal Business Signs configuration.
-
Matching Size to Your Mounting Location
Viewing distance drives the size decision more than wall space does. A 12x18 inch panel reads clearly when viewers are within 10 to 15 feet, which makes it the right call for suite doors, address plates, and lobby identification. Step up to 18x24 for entrance signs that people read from 15 to 25 feet away.
The 36x24 inch panel covers building facades and parking lot signs that need to read from 25 to 40 feet. Measure your mounting wall and confirm your viewer distance before you configure.
-
Deciding Between Single-Sided and Double-Sided Printing
Most wall-flush and post-mounted signs only need one printed face. Double-sided is the correct choice when your sign hangs from a bracket at a building corner, gate arm, or overhead mount where traffic approaches from two directions. Double-sided costs more upfront. It does not cost you a second sign.
-
Straight Corners Versus Rounded Corners
Straight corners are standard and suit most outdoor regulatory, directional, and parking lot signs. Rounded corners reduce sharp edges on panels installed at shoulder height or below, which matters for entrance signs and suite identification where people pass within arm's reach. If your brand uses soft shapes, rounded corners carry that detail through to the sign without any extra design work.
-
Comparing Aluminum to Other Sign Materials
.040 aluminum outlasts foam board, corrugated plastic, and vinyl banners for any outdoor sign that stays up year-round. UV-printed graphics on aluminum resist fading for 5 to 7 years of direct sun. Foam board warps and corrugated plastic degrades in under 6 months outdoors.
If your message rotates monthly or seasonally, Custom Banners cost less per cycle. For a transparent or frosted indoor look, Acrylic Signs are the right material. For any permanent outdoor identification that must survive 5 or more years without replacement, aluminum is the correct choice.
Pair it with
Seasonal Messaging Alongside Permanent Identification
Your aluminum sign handles the building name and address year-round. Custom Banners carry the rotating message: grand opening, seasonal sale, or event dates. Custom Flags add moving color at the entrance that draws eyes from the road while the metal sign anchors the permanent identification above.
Interior Signage at the Same Property
The aluminum panel covers your exterior walls. Acrylic Signs handle interior lobbies and reception areas where a frosted or transparent look fits better than opaque metal. For temporary indoor displays that change monthly, Rigid Signs cost less per cycle and swap out without touching the permanent exterior panel.
Sidewalk and Curb-Level Pairing
A building-mounted metal sign reads from the parking lot, but it doesn't close the gap between the sidewalk and your door. A-Frame Signs sit at the curb below the metal sign and carry daily hours, directional arrows, or specials that change without affecting the permanent panel above.
Surface Branding Where Metal Mounting Isn't Possible
Windows and doors can't take screws. Custom Decals cover glass surfaces and smooth door faces with full-color graphics that match the building sign. Magnetic Signs give company vehicles a removable branded panel that ties back to the permanent exterior identification without drilling.
FAQs
Get your artwork right
- Accepted formats
- PDF, AI, PNG, or JPG. Vector files (AI or PDF) work best for logos because they scale to any size without losing edge sharpness.
- Resolution
- 150 DPI is the floor. We recommend 300 DPI at final print size for anything under 18 inches wide. That's where viewers get close enough to catch a soft edge on text or fine logo detail.
- Bleed
- Add 0.25 inches on all four sides. Keep critical text and logos at least 0.5 inches from the edge and away from pre-drilled hole positions.
- Color mode
- Set your file to CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black combined) before uploading. RGB files shift in color when converted at print time. CMYK matches how we print directly onto the white aluminum base, so your colors come out accurate.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wipe the sign face with a damp cloth and mild soap once or twice a year to clear dirt and road grime. Aluminum doesn't rust, so no protective coating, waxing, or sealing is needed between cleanings.
- Don't aim a pressure washer directly at the printed surface, and skip abrasive scrubbing pads. Both can scratch the UV-printed ink layer and dull color over time.
- Inspect mounting screws and bolts once a year, especially after high-wind seasons. Outdoor signs in exposed locations can loosen at the hardware even though the aluminum panel itself stays intact. Use stainless steel fasteners in coastal locations to prevent the hardware from corroding.
- UV-printed graphics may show slight color dulling after 5 to 7 years of direct sun. The aluminum substrate will not degrade. Reprinting on a new panel is the only maintenance step needed at that point.
