How to orderSpecifications
Custom Metal Door Signs are .040 aluminum panels UV-printed in full color for permanent door-mounted identification. Each sign is rust-proof indoors and outdoors, built to stay readable for 5 or more years without replacement. Three sizes cover most standard door frames and corridor mounting positions.
- Material
- .040 aluminum, roughly 1 mm thick, rust-proof in rain, humidity, and coastal salt air.No protective coating needed. The aluminum itself does not corrode.
- Print Method
- Direct UV print bonds ink to the aluminum surface and cures it instantly with UV light. The result is a scratch-resistant, waterproof finish that holds up through daily cleaning.
- Color Output
- Full-color CMYK output reproduces logos, photos, and text in any color combination.White aluminum base gives the most vibrant color reproduction of any metal substrate.
- Finishing
- Straight or rounded corners available on every order.Rounded corners reduce sharp edges where people brush past at close range.
- Size Range
- 12x18 in, 18x24 in, and 36x24 in.The 12x18 in fits most door-frame mounting positions without overhanging the frame edge.
- Indoor/Outdoor Rating
- Rated for long-lasting indoor or outdoor use. UV-printed graphics resist fading for 5 or more years in direct sun.Aluminum does not rust, warp, or crack regardless of weather exposure.
- Single/Double-Sided
- Single-sided or double-sided printing available.Double-sided suits corridor doors where the sign needs to read from both the approach and exit sides.
- Weight
- A 12x18 in sign weighs roughly 8 oz.Light enough to mount with two screws into a door frame without reinforcement.

.040 Aluminum That Mounts Flat on Any Door Surface
.040 aluminum sits rigid against a door surface without flexing or pulling away from mounting hardware. That's the industry-standard thickness for commercial aluminum signs, roughly 1 mm thick. It matters on doors that open and close dozens of times daily. A thinner material bends at the corners over time. This panel stays flat and level for years without retightening or repositioning.
Direct UV Print in Full Color With Straight or Rounded Corners
UV print delivers sharp, scratch-resistant color in any full-color design. Ink cures instantly by UV light directly onto the aluminum surface, bonding to the metal rather than sitting on top. Daily cleaning and door contact do not dull the image. Rounded corners give a finished look that straight-cut edges do not, and they reduce the risk of catching on clothing or hands near the door.
Single or Double Sided for Interior and Exterior Door Use
Double-sided printing lets your sign read from both the approach and the exit side of a corridor door. A2Z Printing Hub prints both faces at the same resolution so neither side looks like an afterthought. Single-sided suits wall-panel mounts or doors where traffic moves in one direction only. Both options use the same rust-proof aluminum base, so outdoor exposure causes no damage to either face.
Worth knowing: UV-printed graphics on this aluminum resist fading for 5 or more years in direct sun.
Customer reviews
Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Temporary room assignments or rotating messages that change seasonally make metal a poor fit. Rigid Signs handle short-run indoor identification at lower cost without locking you into a permanent panel.
Buyers wanting a frosted or transparent door sign that lets light through will find a better match in Acrylic Signs. That product gives you a clear or frosted look with standoff mounting.
Door graphics that cover a large surface area with flat adhesive film rather than a mounted panel belong on Door Decals, which handle that application without any hardware.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Metal Door Signs configuration.
-
Matching Size to Your Door Frame
The 12x18 in panel fits most standard interior door frames without overhanging the edge. It reads clearly from 8 to 10 ft down a hallway, which makes it the right default for suite numbers, room names, and medical office identification. Go with 18x24 in when your door sits recessed from the main corridor or when you need to display a business name alongside a suite number in the same panel. The 36x24 in works for exterior storefront doors where the sign doubles as a business identification panel visible from across a parking lot.
-
Straight Corners Versus Rounded Corners
Rounded corners are the better default for any sign mounted at shoulder height or below. People brush past door-mounted signs within arm's reach daily, and a rounded corner eliminates the sharp edge that a straight-cut panel leaves exposed. Choose straight corners only when your sign mounts high on a wall or exterior facade where contact is not realistic.
-
Single-Sided Versus Double-Sided Based on Door Traffic
Single-sided printing covers most installations: a sign beside the door frame or on a wall panel. Go double-sided for any door that swings into a shared hallway and needs to identify the room from both the approach and the exit. Corridor doors in medical offices, hotels, and schools are the clearest case for double-sided.
-
Metal Versus Acrylic Versus Door Decal
Here's the thing: .040 aluminum costs less than acrylic and outlasts a door decal by years. That makes it the practical call for any door that sees daily contact, cleaning, and humidity. Choose Acrylic Signs if your space has a glass-panel door or a frosted lobby aesthetic where a floating standoff look fits the interior design. Choose door decals only when mounting hardware is not allowed and you plan to replace the graphic within 1 to 2 years.
Pair it with
Complementary Products: Interior and Exterior Sign Systems
Some suites need both an aluminum exterior door panel and a frosted interior lobby sign. Acrylic Signs give you a clear or frosted look with standoff mounting. Small metal spacers float the sign off the wall to match a glass-and-chrome interior without switching materials on every surface.
Alternative Materials: Same Job, No Hardware
Door Decals handle flat door identification without mounting screws or drilled holes. That matters in leased spaces where hardware modifications are restricted. Plan to replace them within 1 to 2 years.
Different Placements: Extend the Same Aluminum Material
Your door signs and hallway or lobby signs can share the same .040 aluminum substrate for a consistent look across the whole floor. Custom Metal Wall Signs and Custom Metal Business Signs extend that identification system beyond the door and onto adjacent walls, building facades, and entrance panels.
Different Categories: Temporary or Rotating Room ID
Rigid Signs cover indoor room identification at lower cost when the assignment changes seasonally or the space is under renovation. Not rated for outdoor use, but the right call when permanence is not the goal.
FAQs
Will a Metal Door Sign Scratch or Dent From Daily Door Contact?
.040 aluminum is rigid enough to hold its shape through years of routine door contact, but the surface can show scratches if something sharp drags across it repeatedly. The UV-cured ink layer bonds directly to the aluminum and resists normal abrasion from cleaning and incidental touch. Mounting the sign beside the door frame rather than directly on the door face reduces contact significantly.
How Do I Mount a Custom Metal Door Sign Without Damaging the Door?
Two screws into pre-drilled holes cover most installations on wood, metal, and hollow-core doors. Adhesive mounting strips rated for smooth surfaces work on doors where drilling is not allowed, such as leased office suites. A 12x18 in sign weighs roughly 8 oz, so two anchor points hold it flat without reinforcement.
Can I Get Door Signs With ADA-Compliant Text and Braille?
Our standard UV-printed aluminum panels do not include raised tactile lettering or Grade 2 Braille, which full ADA compliance for room identification signs needs. If your project needs ADA-compliant signage, contact us before ordering so we can point you to the right product for that specification.
How Do I Get My Door Signs Before a Specific Opening Date?
Standard production runs 1 to 2 business days after you approve your proof. Orders placed before 12 PM EST start production the same day. Factor in your carrier's transit time at checkout and build in at least 1 buffer day before your install date.
Do I See a Proof Before My Custom Metal Door Signs Go to Print?
Yes. Every order includes a free digital proof showing your exact layout, corner style, color placement, and any pre-drilled hole positions. We do not print until you approve it. Most proofs come back within 24 hours of your order.
Get your artwork right
Resolution determines how sharp your text and logo look at close reading range. Door signs get read from roughly 1 to 3 ft away, so soft edges show up fast.
- File Formats
- PDF, PNG, JPG, or AI. Vector AI files are best for logos because they scale without softening.
- Resolution
- 150 DPI minimum. Go with 300 DPI for any sign under 18 in wide where viewers read from within 3 ft.
- Bleed
- 0.25 in on all sides so color runs to the cut edge cleanly.
- Safe Zone
- Keep all text and logos at least 0.5 in from every edge, and at least 1 in from any pre-drilled hole position.
- Color Mode
- CMYK, not RGB. CMYK matches how we print, so colors come out on aluminum the way they look on your screen. The white aluminum base gives the most vibrant color reproduction of any metal substrate.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wipe the sign face with a damp cloth and mild soap to clear dirt, fingerprints, or smudges. Aluminum does not rust, so water contact during cleaning causes no damage to the panel or the printed surface.
- Do not use abrasive scrubbers, steel wool, or harsh chemical cleaners on the UV-cured ink layer. These scratch the surface and dull the color over time. A soft cloth and mild soap is all this material needs.
- Check mounting screws or adhesive strips once a year. Exterior door signs in high-humidity or high-traffic areas may need hardware retightened after seasonal temperature changes. The aluminum panel itself will not warp, crack, or corrode regardless of weather exposure.
