How to orderSpecifications
Custom PVC Foam Board Signs use a 3/16 in white foam core sandwiched between smooth polystyrene face sheets on both sides. Direct UV ink bonds to that bright white surface and cures instantly, giving you bold, scratch-resistant color without a vinyl layer on top. These boards are built for indoor retail displays, presentation boards, real estate open house signs, and point-of-sale setups.

- Finishing
- Cut to size with clean edges. No grommets or mounting hardware included by default.Boards slide into standard frames or mount with adhesive strips.

3/16 in Foam Core With Smooth Polystyrene Faces
The 3/16 in foam core sits between two smooth polystyrene face sheets. Polystyrene is a rigid, bright white plastic that takes UV ink cleanly and keeps the printed surface crisp. That sandwich construction holds flat on a wall, in a frame, or on an easel without bowing under its own weight. Sturdy enough to stand on its own. Light enough to reposition in seconds.
Direct UV Print in Full CMYK Color
A2Z Printing Hub applies ink straight onto the board surface and cures it instantly under UV light. Colors come out bold and scratch-resistant without a vinyl overlay on top. CMYK (the 4-color process using cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) reproduces photographs, gradients, and detailed graphics accurately on that bright white polystyrene face. No laminate layer means no peeling edge and no added thickness in a frame slot. Sharp colors from day one.
Single or Double Sided Up to 4 ft x 8 ft
Single or double sided printing is available on boards up to roughly 4 ft x 8 ft. One order covers everything from a small counter card to a full-height retail display. Double-sided boards work for ceiling-hung signs and freestanding displays where people approach from both directions. And standard sizes like 18x24 in and 24x36 in ship alongside custom dimensions, so you don't have to cut down a larger sheet yourself.

Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Foam board absorbs moisture and warps when left in rain or direct sun beyond 1 to 2 weeks. For long-term outdoor use, Metal Signs in aluminum are weather-rated for 5 or more years.
Permanent wall or storefront signage that needs to hold up through seasons without replacement is not a job for foam board. Acrylic Signs handle permanent indoor installations. Metal Signs handle outdoor permanent mounting.
Any sign that needs to flex, roll, or curve around a surface will crack on foam board. Custom Banners handle flexible and large-format hanging needs.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom PVC Foam Board Signs configuration.
-
Indoor Use vs. Short-Term Covered Outdoor Use
Foam board holds flat for months indoors without any issue. For a covered lobby entrance or a tent event running 1 to 2 weeks, it works fine. But fully exposed outdoor conditions are a different story. Rain and direct sun cause the 3/16 in foam core to absorb moisture, warp, and separate from the polystyrene faces. Go with Metal Signs in aluminum for anything outdoors longer than 2 weeks.
-
Temporary Seasonal Displays vs. Permanent Signage
Here's the thing: foam board is a seasonal material by design. Retail buyers who swap displays every 4 to 8 weeks get the most out of it. It costs less per unit than Gator Board and weighs far less than acrylic or aluminum, so frequent reorders do not strain a budget. That said, if the sign stays on the wall for a year or more, foam board is not the right call. Acrylic Signs give you a polished permanent indoor look. Metal Signs handle outdoor permanent installations. Choose foam board only when you expect to replace or update within a season.
-
Large-Format Displays vs. Standard Counter and Frame Sizes
Boards up to roughly 4 ft x 8 ft are available. That covers everything from an 18 x 24 in counter card to a full-height retail display. For large-format boards at that upper size range, standard foam board can bow slightly if hung without a frame. A frame or backing support keeps the board flat at sizes above 24 x 36 in.
-
Single-Sided vs. Double-Sided Printing
Single-sided works for wall mounts, frame inserts, and easel displays where the sign faces one direction. Double-sided costs a bit more but covers any sign that hangs from a ceiling grid or stands in the center of a room where people approach from both sides. Worth knowing: real estate agents carrying boards between open house properties often choose double-sided so one board handles both the entryway and the interior display.
Pair it with
Stand Your Foam Board Upright Without Wall Mounting
A foam board leans well, but sometimes you need it standing on its own. Slide it into an A-frame and it stands upright at sidewalk level or inside a lobby with no hardware at all.
When Foam Board Isn't the Right Fit
Foam board works for most indoor needs, but some jobs call for a denser or more rigid substrate. Both options below handle humidity and larger display sizes better than standard foam core.
When the Sign Needs to Last Beyond a Season
Foam board is not the right material for anything permanent. These two options handle long-term installations where foam core would eventually warp or fade.
Complete the Event or Retail Setup Around Your Board
A foam board covers one surface. These products finish the rest of the display so the full setup reads as one cohesive unit.
FAQs
How Long Do Custom PVC Foam Board Signs Last Indoors Before the Print Fades or the Board Warps?
Indoors, foam board typically holds up well for several months and often longer when kept away from direct sunlight and humidity. The UV-cured ink bonds directly to the polystyrene face, so the print does not peel or crack under normal indoor conditions. Warping is almost always a storage issue: a board leaned at an angle for weeks will bow. Lay it flat or keep it upright in a frame and it stays flat.
Can I Use a Custom PVC Foam Board Sign Outdoors for a Weekend Event?
Short-term outdoor use of 1 to 2 weeks works for covered or semi-sheltered areas like tent events, lobby entrances, and indoor venue doorways. Direct rain or sustained sun over that window causes the foam core to absorb moisture and the faces to separate. For any outdoor display running longer than 2 weeks, Metal Signs in aluminum are the right material.
Will the Foam Board Stay Flat When I Hang It on a Wall Without a Frame?
Boards up to about 24 x 36 in hang flat against a wall using adhesive strips without any backing support. At larger sizes, around 36 x 48 in and above, a frame or a rigid backing keeps the board from developing a slight bow over time. The 3/16 in foam core is light enough that two adhesive strips handle the weight at standard sizes.
Do You Send a Proof Before Printing So I Can Check the Layout and Colors?
Yes. Every order includes a free digital proof showing your exact print layout, colors, and cut dimensions before anything goes to press. Nothing prints without your approval. Production starts within 1 business day of proof sign-off, and the full run typically ships within 1 to 2 business days after that.
What File Types Do You Accept, and Does My Design Need to Be a Certain Resolution?
We accept PDF, PNG, JPG, and AI files. Minimum resolution is 150 DPI, but 300 DPI is the better target for any board under 4 ft where viewers get within arm's reach of the surface. Submit files in CMYK color mode so the printed colors match what you see on screen. No bleed is needed since UV print goes directly to the cut edge on rigid boards.
Get your artwork right
We accept PDF, PNG, JPG, and AI files. AI (vector format) is the best choice for logos and text because it scales without softening edges at any board size.
- Resolution
- Resolution runs 150 DPI at minimum, but 300 DPI is the target for any sign under 4 ft where viewers get within arm's reach of the surface. At 150 DPI on a large board, soft edges usually don't show. At close range on a 24x36 in presentation board, they do.
- Color mode
- Set your color mode to CMYK, not RGB. CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) is how we print, so a CMYK file gives you the most accurate match between your screen and the finished board. RGB files convert during processing and colors can shift.
- Bleed
- Rigid boards print to the cut edge, so bleed still matters: add 0.25 in on all sides. Keep text and logos at least 0.5 in from the edge so nothing trims too close.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wipe the printed surface with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use chemical cleaners or ammonia-based sprays on the polystyrene faces. Those products can dissolve or cloud the surface, and the damage is not reversible.
- Store your boards flat and dry. Leaning a foam board at an angle for more than a few days causes it to bow under its own weight. For long-term storage between uses, stack boards flat with a sheet of paper or cardboard between each sign so the faces don't scratch each other. Keep foam board away from prolonged direct sunlight, which causes the faces to yellow and the foam core to soften.
