How to orderSpecifications
Custom Street Signs run on .040 aluminum, the industry-standard gauge for outdoor road signage. Each sign prints in full color via direct UV print and holds up outdoors for 5 or more years without rusting. These signs cover street name identification and directional use on private roads, HOA communities, and campuses.
- Material
- .040 aluminum (roughly 1mm thick). Rigid enough for post mounting without bending. Rust-proof for permanent outdoor use.
- Print Method
- Direct UV print. Ink bonds to the aluminum surface and resists scratching, not a film applied on top.
- Color Output
- Full color. Street name text, directional arrows, community logos, and background colors all print in one pass.
- Finishing
- Straight or rounded corners available. Rounded corners reduce sharp edges on pedestrian-level signs and suit decorative community styles.
- Size Range
- 12x18 in, 18x24 in, and 36x24 in. Covers single-blade nameplates up to wide dual-street directional installs.
- Indoor/Outdoor Rating
- Rated for 5 or more years outdoors. UV-cured ink resists fading through direct sun and rain exposure.
- Single/Double-Sided
- Single-sided printing suits post-mounted signs where traffic approaches from one direction. Double-sided is available for blade signs readable from both directions.
- Sign Type
- Street name and directional. MUTCD-style green-and-white layouts and decorative community styles with custom colors and fonts are both available.

.040 Aluminum With Direct UV Print for Outdoor Durability
.040 aluminum (roughly 1mm thick, the same gauge used on commercial road signs across the country) takes direct UV print and holds up outdoors for 5 or more years without rusting. Direct UV print (ink cured instantly under UV light directly on the metal surface) bonds to the aluminum rather than sitting on top as a peel-prone film. So your street identification stays legible through full seasonal cycles without fading, flaking, or surface rust. A2Z Printing Hub runs this gauge on every street sign we produce because thinner material bends at the post and thinner ink films scratch off in the first winter.
Three Sizes and Two Corner Styles for Any Post or Blade Mount
Three standard sizes cover the full range of street sign installs. The 12x18 in blade fits a single street name on a narrow post. The 18x24 in size handles standard intersection blades where two names share one sign. And the 36x24 in size covers wide directional signs with arrows and multiple destination names. Straight or rounded corners are both available, so you match existing hardware already on your property without ordering custom brackets.
MUTCD-Style and Decorative Layouts on One Product
Functional green-and-white layouts follow MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) color and text conventions, the recognized standard for street name identification. Drivers read them instantly because the format matches every municipal street sign they've seen. But decorative styles let HOA communities and campuses add custom colors, fonts, and community logos within the same sturdy aluminum format. Both layout types print in full color. One product, two distinct visual directions.

Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Public road installation. Street signs on public roads are specified and installed by government agencies, not private buyers. These signs cover private roads, lots, and properties only.
General business identification like storefront names or lobby directories belongs in Business Signs, which covers commercial branding materials, not regulatory signage.
Night-visible signs facing vehicle headlights on higher-speed private roads need reflective sheeting. Go with Custom Reflective Signs for any sign that faces headlights after dark.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Street Signs configuration.
-
MUTCD-Style Versus Decorative Layout
Green-and-white MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) layouts are the recognized standard for street name identification. Drivers read them instantly because the format matches public road signs everywhere in the country. Go with MUTCD-style if your HOA community, campus, or private road needs signage that drivers recognize without thinking. Decorative layouts with custom colors, fonts, and logos suit planned communities that want branded signage matching a neighborhood identity. But here's the thing: if you're unsure, start with the MUTCD template and customize the community name or logo within that format.
-
Matching Sign Size to Your Intersection
Size determines readability at distance, so get this right before you order.
-
Single Street Name or Driveway Entrance
The 12x18 in blade fits one street name on a standard post mount and reads clearly from roughly 40 ft. It covers single-road nameplates at driveway junctions and rural road entrances.
-
Standard Intersection With Two Street Names
Go with 18x24 in when two street names share one sign or when the sign needs to read from 50 ft or more. Most HOA intersections use this size as the default blade.
-
Wide Directional Signs With Arrows
The 36x24 in size handles multi-destination directional signs with arrows and longer text strings. Campus road networks and large subdivisions typically use this size at main entry points and internal junctions.
-
Single-Sided Versus Double-Sided Printing
Single-sided printing works on any post where traffic approaches from one direction only. Choose double-sided if your sign sits at a T-intersection or on a blade mount where drivers pass and read it from both sides. Most blade-mount street signs at four-way intersections need double-sided printing to cover all approaching traffic.

When to Order Reflective Signs Instead
Non-reflective aluminum reads well in daylight but goes dark after sunset. If your private road or campus sees regular nighttime vehicle traffic, order Custom Reflective Signs rather than standard aluminum. Reflective sheeting bounces headlight beams back toward the driver from 500 ft or more, which UV-printed aluminum alone cannot do.
Pair it with
Complete the Road Signage Set
Street name signs identify the intersection. But drivers also need speed and stop control at that same point. Custom Speed Limit Signs and Custom Stop Signs use the same MUTCD color conventions and .040 aluminum substrate, so all three products match on the post.
Night Visibility Upgrade
Non-reflective aluminum reads well in daylight but disappears after dark when headlights are the only light source. Custom Reflective Signs use the same aluminum base with reflective sheeting added, giving drivers visibility from 500 ft or more on private roads with nighttime traffic.
Property Access and Lot Control
Street identification goes up first, then parking and boundary signs follow on any new development. Custom Parking Signs and Custom Private Property Signs cover the lot and boundary signage that typically ships in the same bulk order as street name signs.
Temporary and Portable Additions
Not every directional need is permanent. Custom Banners handle seasonal or event-specific road messaging at the same property, and A-Frame Signs give you a portable sidewalk-level directional that repositions without a post or bracket.
FAQs
Can I Get the Standard Green-and-White Look Drivers Recognize?
Yes. Our MUTCD-style layout uses the same green background and white text convention found on street signs across the country. You submit your street name text, and we place it in the standard format on .040 aluminum so the finished sign reads exactly like the municipal signage drivers already know.
How Long Will a Street Sign Hold Up on a Post Outdoors?
.040 aluminum does not rust, and UV-cured ink bonds directly to the metal surface rather than sitting on top as a film. Under normal outdoor exposure, direct sun, rain, and seasonal temperature swings, these signs typically hold up for 5 or more years without fading or structural failure. One order covers a full community buildout without a mid-cycle replacement run.
Do These Signs Come With Mounting Hardware Included?
Mounting hardware is not included in the base order. The signs arrive ready to mount with pre-drilled holes sized for standard street sign posts and blade hardware. Most HOA and campus installers source U-channel posts and mounting brackets locally or through their facilities supplier, since post lengths vary by site.
What File Do I Need to Submit for a Community Logo?
Send us a vector file (AI or PDF preferred) for any community logo going on the sign face. Vector files scale to any sign size without losing edge sharpness. If you only have a JPG or PNG, submit it at 300 DPI or higher and we'll check it at proof stage. Logos that arrive below that resolution often show soft edges on the finished sign.
Can I Order a Small Batch for a Single Road?
No minimum quantity applies. A private road owner can order one sign for a single driveway entrance and pay the same per-sign rate. That said, bulk orders of 10 or more signs qualify for volume pricing, so HOA boards ordering a full intersection set get a lower per-sign cost automatically.
Get your artwork right
Resolution determines how sharp your street name text and community logos look once printed. Submit files at 300 DPI minimum for any sign 18 in wide or smaller. That is where viewers read at close range and a soft edge becomes obvious. Larger signs at 36x24 in hold at 150 DPI without visible softness.
- Accepted formats
- PDF, AI, PNG, and JPG. Vector files (PDF or AI) are strongly preferred for logos and any text with fine strokes. Raster files (PNG, JPG) work for photographic elements.
- Bleed
- 0.25 in on all four sides. **Safe zone:** keep all text and logos at least 0.5 in from the trim edge so nothing clips at the cut line. **Color mode:** submit in CMYK, not RGB. CMYK matches how we print, so your greens and whites come out on aluminum the way they look on your screen.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wipe the sign face with a damp cloth and mild soap once or twice a year to clear road dust and grime. The UV-cured ink surface doesn't need any special cleaner, and aluminum doesn't rust, so the substrate needs no protective coating or seasonal treatment even in wet climates.
- Inspect your post-mounting hardware annually. Bolts and brackets loosen over time from wind load and vehicle vibration, so retighten any loose fasteners to keep the sign face stable and readable. Also check that vegetation hasn't grown up to block the sign face, especially on rural private roads where brush grows quickly along the road edge.
