How to orderSpecifications
Custom Reflective Signs run on .040 in aluminum with engineer-grade reflective sheeting bonded to the face. Each sign prints in full color using direct UV and holds up outdoors for 5 or more years without rusting or fading. These are the specs for every sign we produce in this product.
- Material
- .040 in aluminum with engineer-grade reflective sheeting bonded to the face.Aluminum does not rust, and sheeting holds retroreflectivity for 7 to 10 years outdoors.
- Print Method
- Direct UV print applies ink straight to the sign surface and cures it instantly. The result is a scratch-resistant, waterproof color layer that does not peel or bubble.
- Color Output
- Full color across the entire sign face.MUTCD-standard colors print accurately so your signs match recognized traffic and safety conventions.
- Finishing
- Straight or rounded corners. Pre-drilled holes available for wall, fence, or post mounting.Rounded corners reduce injury risk on signs mounted at pedestrian height (under 7 ft).
- Size Range
- 12x18 in, 18x24 in, and 36x24 in standard. The 36x24 in suits wide-format warning and caution signs at loading docks and site entrances.
- Indoor/Outdoor Rating
- Rated for outdoor use 5 or more years. Reflective sheeting holds 7 to 10 years before visible degradation.Aluminum substrate does not rust and needs no protective coating.
- Single/Double-Sided
- Single-sided or double-sided printing available.Double-sided signs work for post-mounted applications where drivers approach from both directions.
- Reflective Grade
- Engineer-grade reflective sheeting is standard. High-intensity prismatic (HIP) sheeting available on request.HIP gives higher retroreflectivity for signs facing traffic above roughly 25 mph.

Key highlights
- Engineer-Grade Reflective Sheeting on .040 Aluminum
- Direct UV Full-Color Print on Both Sides
- Three Sizes With Straight or Rounded Corners
Engineer-Grade Reflective Sheeting on .040 Aluminum
Engineer-grade reflective sheeting bonds directly to .040 in aluminum (roughly 1 mm thick rigid metal). That retroreflective coating bounces headlight beams back toward the driver, keeping your parking and traffic signs readable from roughly 500 ft in the dark. No added lighting needed. The aluminum does not rust, and the sheeting holds retroreflectivity for 7 to 10 years under normal outdoor exposure.
Direct UV Full-Color Print on Both Sides
Direct UV printing cures ink instantly with ultraviolet light applied straight to the sign surface. The result is sharp, full-color output on single or double-sided signs that resists scratching and does not peel or bubble outdoors. At A2Z Printing Hub, MUTCD-standard colors (red, white, green, yellow, blue) print accurately, so your signs match recognized traffic and safety conventions without color drift. Bold output. Crisp edges on text and symbols.
Three Sizes With Straight or Rounded Corners
Three standard sizes cover most sign formats: 12x18 in for parking and safety signs, 18x24 in for speed limit and regulatory signs, and 36x24 in for wide caution and warning signs at loading docks. Your choice of straight or rounded corners lets you match the mounting situation. Rounded corners reduce sharp edges on signs at pedestrian height. Pre-drilled holes are available for wall, fence, or post mounting so you skip the custom cutting step entirely.

Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Storefront and lobby identification where night visibility is not a factor. A lighter indoor material handles that job better. Custom Business Signs cover building identification and branding.
Public road installation is not a fit here. Government agencies install and maintain signs on public roads. These signs are for private roads, lots, and properties only.
Short-run event signage that needs to move after one use belongs with Custom Banners, not rigid aluminum.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Reflective Signs configuration.
-
Matching Sign Size to Your Sign Type
Size follows function. The 12x18 in format covers most parking and safety signs read from a stopped or slow-moving vehicle. Go with 18x24 in for speed limit and standard regulatory formats that a driver needs to read from a moving vehicle at roughly 15 to 25 mph. Use 36x24 in for wide caution or warning signs at loading docks and site entrances where the message needs to carry across a wide approach lane. Match your size to the MUTCD standard for that sign type before ordering.
-
Choosing Between Engineer-Grade and High-Intensity Prismatic Sheeting
Here's the thing: most private parking lots do not need the top-tier option. Engineer-grade reflective sheeting (a retroreflective coating that bounces headlight beams back toward the driver) works well for low-speed roads and lots under roughly 25 mph. High-intensity prismatic (HIP) sheeting returns more light per square foot and holds up better in areas with competing ambient light, like lit commercial corridors or busy campus entrances. But if you are not sure, start with engineer-grade. You can upgrade on reorder if night visibility falls short.
-
Straight Corners Versus Rounded Corners
Rounded corners reduce injury risk on any sign mounted at pedestrian height, roughly under 7 ft from the ground. Pick rounded corners for signs near walkways, bike lanes, play areas, or anywhere a person could brush the edge. Straight corners work fine for post-mounted signs above head height. The corner choice does not affect reflectivity or print quality.
-
Single-Sided Versus Double-Sided Printing
Post-mounted signs at intersections and driveway entrances need double-sided printing. Drivers approach from two directions, and a blank back face means half your traffic misses the message entirely. Single-sided printing is enough for wall-mounted and fence-mounted signs that face one direction only. Double-sided costs more up front but removes the need for two separate signs on the same post.
Pair it with
Complete a Full Private Road Intersection
Custom Stop Signs and Custom Speed Limit Signs use the same .040 aluminum substrate and mount on the same U-channel posts. One order covers a full intersection without mismatched hardware. All three ship together and install at the same time.
Cover Every Parking Rule in One Lot
Custom Parking Signs handle general identification. Custom No Parking Signs cover prohibition zones and tow-away areas. Add Custom Reserved Parking Signs for handicap, visitor, and employee spaces. All three mount at the same post height.
Build a Complete OSHA Safety Tier
Custom Safety Warning Signs cover hazard-specific risks at the warning level. Custom Street Signs handle name identification at private road intersections. Ordering both alongside reflective signs completes a property's full regulatory and safety sign set in one shipment.
Add a Portable Ground-Level Option
A-Frame Signs at a driveway entrance give portable, repositionable direction. Post-mounted reflective signs handle permanent traffic control at the same property. The two products work at different heights and serve different driver needs without overlap.
FAQs
Can I Legally Install a Custom Reflective Stop Sign on My Private Road?
Yes, on private property. Stop signs, speed limit signs, and parking signs on private roads, parking lots, and campuses are installed by the property owner or manager, not a government agency. Public road signs are a government function entirely. For private roads, MUTCD-standard shapes and colors are the recognized convention, but check your local ordinances for any specific requirements before posting.
How Long Does the Reflective Sheeting Actually Last Before It Stops Working at Night?
Engineer-grade reflective sheeting typically holds retroreflectivity for 7 to 10 years under normal outdoor exposure. The .040 in aluminum substrate does not rust, so the sheeting usually degrades before the sign body does. Inspect your signs annually in low-light conditions. Replace when the return brightness visibly drops compared to a new sign.
Do Custom Reflective Signs Follow MUTCD Color and Shape Standards?
Our templates follow MUTCD color, shape, and text conventions. Red and white for stop and prohibition, white rectangular for speed limits, green for street names, yellow for caution. We are a sign printer, not a traffic engineering firm. For any installation where local code compliance matters, confirm the specific requirements with your municipality or facility safety officer before ordering.
Will the Reflective Surface Affect How Printed Colors Look During the Day?
Daytime color accuracy stays strong on engineer-grade sheeting with direct UV printing. MUTCD-standard colors, including red, white, green, yellow, and blue, print accurately against the reflective face. That said, very light pastel tones or fine gradients do not read as cleanly on reflective sheeting as they would on flat aluminum. Stick to bold, high-contrast layouts and your colors will hold up in both daylight and headlights.
What File Format and Resolution Do I Need for Sharp Text on a Reflective Sign?
Submit PDF, PNG, JPG, or AI files at 300 DPI for any sign under 18 in wide. Set color mode to CMYK and include a 0.25 in bleed on all sides. Avoid strokes thinner than 2 pt and light text on light backgrounds. Our free design tool includes pre-built MUTCD and OSHA templates already set to the right dimensions and contrast levels.
Get your artwork right
Custom Reflective Signs need bold, high-contrast layouts to stay readable in headlight return at night. Here's the thing: fine detail and thin strokes that look fine on screen disappear fast on a reflective surface at 50 ft.
- Accepted File Formats
- PDF, PNG, JPG, or AI. Vector files (AI or PDF) work best for logos and text because they scale without softening.
- Resolution
- Minimum 150 DPI. Go with 300 DPI for any sign 18 in wide or smaller, where drivers and pedestrians read text at close range.
- Bleed
- 0.25 in on all sides. Keep text and logos at least 0.5 in from the trim edge so nothing clips during cutting.
- Color Mode
- CMYK, not RGB. CMYK matches how we print, so your MUTCD-standard reds, whites, and greens come out accurate on press. RGB files shift color on output.
- Stroke Weight
- Do not use strokes under 2 pt or light text on light backgrounds. Both disappear on reflective sheeting.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wipe the sign face with a damp cloth and mild soap 1 to 2 times per year to clear road grime and debris. Do not use abrasive scrubbers on the reflective sheeting. The aluminum substrate does not rust, so no protective coating or seasonal treatment is needed.
- Inspect the reflective sheeting once a year. Replace the sign when retroreflectivity (the headlight-bouncing property of the surface coating) visibly degrades, typically after 7 to 10 years of outdoor exposure. Check post-mounting hardware every year and retighten bolts loosened by wind or vehicle vibration. And after snowplow season, inspect parking signs for impact damage from plowing equipment.
