How to orderSpecifications
Custom Caution Signs run on .040 aluminum, a rigid, rust-proof metal sheet roughly 1mm thick. Three sizes cover most mounting situations, from tight door-frame columns to wide overhead lanes. These signs stay readable outdoors for 5 or more years without fading, peeling, or corroding.
- Material
- .040 aluminum (rigid metal, rust-proof, roughly 1mm thick).Same substrate used for standard commercial traffic and safety signs across the country. Does not rust or warp.
- Print Method
- Direct UV print (ink bonded directly to the aluminum surface, cured instantly by UV light).Produces a scratch-resistant, waterproof image that does not peel or bubble.
- Color Output
- Full color across the entire sign face.Accurately reproduces OSHA/ANSI caution yellow (PMS 109 C) with bold black text.
- Finishing
- Straight or rounded corners available.Rounded corners reduce sharp edges on signs mounted at shoulder height or below.
- Size Range
- 12x18 in, 18x24 in, and 36x24 in.The 18x24 in is the most common workplace caution size. The 36x24 in suits overhead or wide-lane mounting.
- Indoor/Outdoor Rating
- Rated for long-lasting indoor or outdoor use. Outdoor lifespan runs 5 or more years in direct sun and weather.Indoor signs last longer with no UV or moisture exposure.
- Single/Double-Sided
- Available single-sided or double-sided.Double-sided printing lets one sign face two directions at aisle intersections or two-way entry points.
- Weight
- Lightweight for its rigidity. A standard 18x24 in sign mounts with two screws, no special hardware needed.

.040 Aluminum That Won't Rust Outdoors
.040 aluminum (the industry-standard thickness for commercial signs, roughly 1mm thick) holds its shape on a wall, fence, or post for 5 or more years without rusting. No seasonal replacements, no peeling edges, no corrosion spreading across the sign face. Sturdy enough to stay flat through freeze-thaw cycles, heat, and rain. A2Z Printing Hub prints every caution sign directly on this substrate, so the material and the image age at the same rate.
OSHA/ANSI Yellow-and-Black Color Convention Built In
Yellow-and-black OSHA/ANSI caution formatting signals lower-severity hazard alerts to workers and visitors at a glance. The yellow background with bold black text follows the ANSI Z535 standard (the national color-coding system for workplace hazard signs), which keeps your signage consistent with inspection expectations. Inspectors recognize the format immediately. You don't scramble to swap non-compliant signs before an audit.
Direct UV Print in Full Color on Single or Double Sides
Direct UV print bonds ink directly to the aluminum surface and cures it instantly under UV light. The result is a scratch-resistant, waterproof image. Sharp black text on yellow reads clearly from roughly 20 ft at standard eye level. And double-sided printing means one sign covers both directions at an aisle end or two-way entry point without mounting a second sign. Full-color output. Zero laminate needed.

How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Caution Signs configuration.
-
Size Matches Mounting Height and Viewing Distance
The 12x18 in sign fits door frames, column faces, and narrow wall sections where space is tight. At roughly shoulder height, it reads clearly from about 15 ft away. The 18x24 in is the standard for most warehouse and facility caution signs. It covers more wall space and stays readable from about 20 ft, which handles most aisle and corridor situations. Go with the 36x24 in when the sign mounts overhead or spans a wide lane entry, like a low-clearance bar at a parking garage. Drivers need to catch the message from farther back. Pick your size based on mounting height first, then the distance your audience stands from the sign.
-
Single-Sided vs Double-Sided Printing
Single-sided works for any sign mounted flat against a wall, fence, or post where traffic only comes from one direction. Double-sided is the right call at aisle ends, two-way entry points, or anywhere people approach from opposite sides. And if you're not sure, double-sided adds minimal cost and covers both directions without a second sign.
-
Straight or Rounded Corners for Your Environment
Rounded corners are worth choosing for any sign mounted at shoulder height or below in a busy work area. Sharp corners on a low-mounted sign create a contact hazard in tight aisles or doorways. Straight corners are fine for overhead mounting or any location where people won't brush against the sign edge.

Confirming Caution Severity Before Ordering
Here's the thing: not every hazard belongs on a Caution sign. Caution signs follow OSHA/ANSI standards for lower-severity situations, meaning the risk is minor injury if someone ignores the message (wet floors, low clearance, uneven surfaces). If your hazard could cause serious injury or death, the correct ANSI severity level calls for a Warning or Danger sign. Check your hazard classification before ordering. Custom Safety Warning Signs cover the higher-severity range if your situation calls for it.

FAQs
Do Custom Caution Signs Meet OSHA and ANSI Color Standards?
Yes. Our yellow-and-black format follows the OSHA/ANSI Z535 convention for caution-level hazard alerts. That standard specifies yellow backgrounds with bold black text for lower-severity warnings, and our full-color UV print reproduces that convention accurately. Consistent formatting keeps your signage readable to inspectors who expect the standard color coding on a walkthrough.
How Long Will an Aluminum Caution Sign Hold Up Mounted Outdoors?
.040 aluminum does not rust, and the direct UV print bonds a waterproof, scratch-resistant image to the surface. Outdoor lifespan runs 5 or more years in direct sun and weather. Indoor signs last longer because they avoid UV exposure and moisture entirely.
Can I See a Proof Before My Signs Go to Print?
Every order includes a free digital proof showing your exact layout, colors, corner style, and any pre-drilled hole placement. Nothing goes to press without your approval. That step catches color mode issues and layout problems before they reach the aluminum.
What If My Sign Arrives Damaged or the Colors Don't Match?
If your signs arrive damaged in shipping or the print does not match your approved proof, we reprint at no cost to you. Submit your claim with a photo of the damage or the discrepancy, and we get a replacement into production right away.
Do Bulk Orders of Caution Signs Get a Lower Price Per Sign?
Bulk orders of 10 or more signs qualify for volume pricing, and the cost per sign drops as quantity goes up. Production still runs 1 to 2 business days on bulk orders, so a larger order does not push your ship date back.
Get your artwork right
File format matters before anything else. Submit your artwork as PDF, AI, PNG, or JPG. Vector files (AI or PDF with outlined fonts) work best for logos because they scale without softening at any sign size.
- Resolution
- minimum 150 DPI at final sign dimensions, 300 DPI recommended for any sign 18 in wide or smaller. Soft edges show up most on the 12x18 in size, where viewers stand close enough to notice.
- Bleed
- 0.25 in on all four sides. **Safe zone:** keep all text and logos at least 0.5 in from the trim edge so nothing gets cut during finishing.
- Color mode
- submit files in CMYK, not RGB. RGB is a screen color model. CMYK matches how our press lays ink on aluminum, so the colors you see in your file come out accurately on the sign. OSHA caution yellow is PMS 109 C, or CMYK equivalent: 0C 5M 100Y 0K. Submit that value directly and the yellow prints true.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wipe the sign face with a damp cloth and mild soap once or twice a year. The UV-printed surface is waterproof and does not need any protective coating or seasonal treatment.
- .040 aluminum does not rust, so outdoor mounting on a post, fence, or wall needs no paint touch-up between seasons. Check your mounting hardware (screws, bolts, or brackets) once a year. Wind vibration and temperature swings loosen fasteners over time, so retighten anything that shifts to keep the sign flat and readable at the intended distance.
- And if the sign takes a direct impact from equipment or a vehicle, inspect the face for dents that distort the text. A bent sign may no longer read clearly from 20 ft away and should be replaced.
