How to orderSpecifications
Custom Sports Banners print on PVC Flex vinyl in two weights built for the demands of athletic venues. The 11 oz handles indoor gymnasium and arena displays. The 16 oz takes on outdoor field fencing and stadium mounting where wind load and long-term sun exposure are real factors.
- Material
- PVC Flex vinyl.A smooth, glossy outdoor material that holds ink without cracking or peeling through weather exposure.
- Print Method
- Eco-solvent or UV inkjet.Weather-resistant inks bond directly into the vinyl surface so colors stay sharp through rain and sun.
- Color Output
- CMYK full color.Reproduces team colors, sponsor logos, and tournament graphics across the full visible color range.
- Finishing
- Brass grommets every 2 ft. Pole pockets. Hem and heat weld (folded edges sealed with heat for a reinforced border).Choose the option that fits your mounting setup.
- Size Range
- Custom sizes available. Banners with a width or height over 10 ft include a welded seam (a heat-bonded join that holds panels together without weakening the banner).
- Indoor/Outdoor Rating
- Both. Outdoor banners hold color for roughly 6 to 12 months in direct sun. Indoor banners last longer because they avoid UV exposure entirely.
- Single/Double-Sided
- Single-sided is standard. Double-sided with a blockout liner is available for displays facing two directions.
- Weight
- 11 oz for indoor or light-duty use. 16 oz for heavy-duty outdoor field fencing where a thicker, tougher material handles long-term exposure.

Field-Fence and Gym-Wall Ready on 11 oz or 16 oz PVC Flex Vinyl
Two vinyl weights cover two very different venues. PVC Flex vinyl (a smooth, glossy outdoor material) runs 11 oz for indoor gymnasium walls and 16 oz for outdoor field fencing. Pick the weight that matches your venue and you're not overpaying for material you don't need. The 16 oz holds flat against chain-link through wind and rain. And the 11 oz mounts flush on a gym wall without adding bulk under court lighting.
Brass Grommets Every 2 ft for Secure Fence and Wall Mounting
Grommets (metal rings punched into the banner edges) land every 2 ft along all edges for hanging with hooks, zip ties, or rope. That spacing gives field fence banners a tight, flat hang that doesn't sag or flap loose mid-season. Closer spacing means fewer stress points where the vinyl can tear under load. Worth knowing: most field fence banners fail at the corner grommets first, so consistent 2 ft placement distributes tension evenly across the full length.
Double-Sided Printing with Blockout Liner for Scoreboard and Sponsor Displays
Double-sided banners use a blockout liner (a white layer between front and back prints). It stops one side from showing through the other, so scoreboard sponsor walls and entrance banners read clearly from both directions. Single-sided is standard for most field fence and gym wall applications. But scoreboard panels and entrance banners face two audiences at once, and a blockout liner is the only way to keep both sides crisp and readable.
We print all banners with full-color CMYK (the 4-color process using cyan, magenta, yellow, and black). Team colors and sponsor logos reproduce accurately across the full visible range.

Ideal for
Not the best fit for
Individual player photo banners with headshots, names, and jersey numbers ordered per roster slot are a different job. Custom Team Banners handles that format with sizing and layouts built for it.
Soccer-specific field fence banners sized for standard soccer field fence heights belong on Custom Soccer Banners, which targets that sport's exact dimensions rather than general sports signage.
Personal sports celebrations like a youth player's birthday party or a coach's retirement gathering are not an industry order. Event Banners is the better fit there.
How to choose
Use these buying points to choose the right Custom Sports Banners configuration.
-
Outdoor Field Fencing Calls for 16 oz Vinyl
Field fence banners take wind, rain, and UV exposure for a full spring or fall season. Go with 16 oz PVC Flex vinyl and brass grommets every 2 ft so the banner holds flat against chain-link without sagging between tie points. The 11 oz material is lighter and more flexible, but it won't hold its shape under sustained outdoor wind load. Pick 16 oz for any banner mounted on an outdoor fence, stadium rail, or building facade.
-
Indoor Gymnasium Walls Work Best on 11 oz Vinyl
Gymnasium walls don't face weather, so the heavier weight isn't needed. The 11 oz vinyl mounts flush against the wall with hooks or adhesive strips and stays flat under court lighting without adding bulk. It's also easier to roll and store between seasons. If your display is entirely indoors, 11 oz is the right call.
-
Single-Sided Versus Two-Direction Visibility
Single-sided works for field fence banners, gym walls, and any display where viewers approach from one direction. Double-sided with a blockout liner stops one side from showing through the other. That's the right call for scoreboard sponsor panels and entrance banners where foot traffic or seating faces both sides. Add the blockout liner at checkout so neither side bleeds through.
-
Scoreboard and Entrance Displays
These face two audiences at once. A blockout liner is not optional here. Order double-sided and confirm the liner is selected before you approve the proof.
-
Banner Size and the Seam Threshold
Banners up to 10 ft in width and height print as a single panel. Anything wider or taller includes a welded seam, which is a heat-bonded join that holds the panels together without weakening the banner. Plan your artwork so no critical text or logo lands directly on the seam line. For a typical 4 ft x 8 ft field fence banner, you're well under the seam threshold.
-
General Sports Signage Versus Sport-Specific Needs
Custom Sports Banners cover field signage, sponsor walls, tournament brackets, and league welcome displays not tied to one specific sport. For individual player headshot banners ordered per roster slot, go to Custom Team Banners. For soccer-specific field fence sizing, go to Custom Soccer Banners.
Pair it with
Finish the Field and Venue Setup
Your sports banner covers the fence line. But the entrance and the registration area still need signage. Custom Flags planted at parking lot gates add visible height before fans reach the fence. Canopy Tents cover the check-in or concession area at multi-field tournaments where the banner marks the main gate.
Handle Player-Specific and Sport-Specific Layouts
General field signage is one job. Individual player headshots with names and numbers ordered per roster slot are a different job entirely. And soccer leagues need fence sizing built for their exact field dimensions, not a general sports format.
Brand the Tables and Walkways
Table Covers turn registration and merchandise tables into branded surfaces at any tournament. A-Frame Signs direct foot traffic from the parking lot to the field entrance without relying on staff to guide every arrival.
Solve the Long-Term Indoor Recognition Need
Seasonal banners do the job during the season. For permanent gymnasium recognition walls where a vinyl banner is not the right long-term solution, Custom Signs handle fixed indoor mounting with a finish that holds year-round.
FAQs
Will My Sports Banner Survive a Full Outdoor Season of Wind and Rain?
Yes, on 16 oz PVC Flex vinyl with eco-solvent or UV inkjet inks. The heavier weight resists sagging under wind load, and UV-resistant inks hold color through rain and direct sun for roughly 6 to 12 months outdoors. Brass grommets every 2 ft along all edges keep the banner anchored to the fence so it doesn't pull loose mid-season. Indoor banners on 11 oz vinyl last longer because they avoid UV exposure entirely.
Can I Order in Bulk for a Multi-Field Tournament With Consistent Sizing?
Absolutely. You can place one order covering banners across several venues and select the same size, weight, and finishing for every unit in the set. Volume discounts start at 10 or more banners, so tournament orders typically cost less per unit than single-banner runs. Bulk orders of 10 or more usually add roughly 1 to 2 business days to standard production time, so plan your order at least a week before the tournament weekend.
What Happens if My Banner Arrives Damaged or Colors Look Wrong?
We reprint it at no charge. Your banner does not go to print until you approve a free digital proof, which we send within 24 hours of your order. If the finished banner arrives damaged in transit or the print does not match the approved proof, contact us and we make it right. That reprint commitment applies to every order, no exceptions.
How Do I Hang a Sports Banner on a Chain-Link Fence Without Sagging?
Use the brass grommets every 2 ft along the edges and attach with zip ties, bungee cords, or rope at each grommet point. Skipping grommet points leaves too much unsupported material between ties, which is where sagging starts. For a 4 ft x 8 ft fence banner, that means roughly 10 attachment points around the full perimeter. Tighten each tie evenly so the banner sits flat rather than pulling toward one corner.
Do Banners Wider Than 10 ft Show a Visible Seam in the Image?
The welded seam is a heat-bonded join, not a gap or fold, so it lies flat across the face of the banner. Most viewers standing at field or stands distance won't spot it. That said, keep critical text, logos, and faces at least 6 in away from the seam line when you set up your artwork. A solid color or background pattern crossing the seam is far less noticeable than a letter or logo split down the middle.
Get your artwork right
Resolution sets the difference between a crisp finished banner and one with soft edges you only notice after it's hung. We accept PDF, PNG, JPG, and AI files. AI (vector) files work best for logos because they scale without losing sharpness at any size.
- Resolution
- Set your resolution to at least 150 DPI. For banners under 4 ft where viewers get close enough to spot a soft edge, 300 DPI is the better call. Add 0.25 in of bleed (extra artwork beyond the trim line) on all sides so the print has no white edges after cutting. Keep all text and logos at least 0.5 in inside the trim line (the safe zone) so nothing gets clipped during finishing.
- Color mode
- Work in CMYK color mode, not RGB. CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) is how we print, so your colors come out on vinyl the way they look on screen. RGB files can shift at output.
- Bleed
- Worth knowing: for banners over 10 ft wide, keep critical text and logos at least 6 in away from the seam line. Our free online design tool includes sports-themed templates and handles bleed setup automatically. Need a custom layout? Our design team builds it for you.

Care instructions
Product care
- Wipe your vinyl banner with a damp cloth and mild soap to remove dirt or field debris. Do not machine wash vinyl. It weakens the material and can crack the ink surface.
- Roll banners for storage rather than folding them. Folds create crease lines that weaken vinyl over time, and a rolled banner fits neatly into a tube for transport between venues. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. If a banner picks up a crease from transport, lay it flat in direct sunlight for roughly 30 minutes and the vinyl relaxes back to flat on its own.
